What Were You Fed As An Infant?

(Robin) #21

Oh brother, I would love to go to a Ketofest if there ever is one again! How cool to meet so many people that I feel are already friends and kindred spirits.
I didn’t do the 12 steps… but I attended every one of my dad’s AA meetings. I loved the camaraderie and the stories. Crazy, right?
But those meetings helped me later. When I had breast cancer, I remembered I am powerless and need to ask for help. And when I started keto… it was a breeze cuz I know how to draw a line in the damn sand and not cross it. Ever. And I can spot a slippery slope a mile away. So… yes… those 12 steps can serve us well in so many aspects of life.

I hope one day to look across a porch and say howdy to you. Are those events held in Australia?

I was fed just like you. I was fat my entire life until I started Keto 4 years ago. A lifetime of SAD destroyed my health. I believe I am healing. I am no longer obese, but still overweight by clinical standards. My wife says that I’m not fat. I’m 57 yo. I’m not afraid of looking in the mirror anymore. I see myself in the driveway camera recording now, and wonder who that person is. KCKO.

Oh my gosh! I used to do the same thing!!!

(Rebecca ) #24

We used to make toast from sliced bread and put margarine (Mom thought that was healthier than butter) with sugar and cinnamon mixed together. There was WAY too much sugar!!

(Rebecca ) #25

I am a survivor also! It be 10 years on the 20th of this month!

(Allie) #26

I did this too

Also, when I was really young, used to steal edam cheese from the fridge and hide behind the curtains eating it. I must have been about 3 at the time.

Digestive biscuits with peanut butter on too…

A Supportive Spouse is so important! My husband took my picture the other day and I looked way better that I thought I did (in my head).
I should add that I didn’t know he took the picture!

@Richard_M hosted one once I think. But the whole Ketofest thing is on hold. I will be attending Keto Salt Lake this April. It will likely be the only conference I will attend this year and I am going mostly to hang out with friends I haven’t see in person in 2 years.

just turned 60 a few months ago.
never fat ever.
what did me in was pregrancy at age 43 my one and only and boredom and life changes to effect our life in that new baby.

so yea I did this to me point blank thru ick food I loved that was processed for total convenience and life flip on babe when older.

so no, I don’t put any issues on childhood or how I was raised. Good food, good parents…this was all me later down the line. 100% responsibility, I don’t blame a soul or even corp greed on how I chose to walk my path.

(Rebecca ) #30

Just curious, do you know if you were nursed or bottle fed?

#31

directed at me? bottle fed.
mom was older when she had me with my brothers being like 3 and 2 so I got the short end of whatever stick in that house being crazy HA

(Rebecca ) #32

Yes, I forgot to direct the question to you!, Fangs!

#33

I sucked down the basic store crap formula til I was forced to grab a pork chop from the table and fend for myself :scream:

that was at an early age, always a meat hound from day 1 I could get my hands on it with the grabbing at the table, my mom could never seem to make enough

(Robin) #34

Funny, but I read that last line as “hang out with friends I haven’t seen since prison.” Heh Heh.

Formula and the first food doctors suggested in those days was baby cereal, rice mostly. Once I was into jarred baby food, my mom said my favorite was one called Blueberry Buckle. A dessert I am sure. I don’t think then prepared baby food lasted long before I was switched to table food.

I was chunky from about 8 years old on. My brother and sister were fed the same (as well as I can remember) and they stayed thin into adulthood and then gained weight.

We didn’t eat out or have many convenience foods. Mom cooked every day, but we ate a lot of carbs to make the grocery money go farther. There was some kind of bread at every meal. If nothing else, a loaf of white bread and the margarine tub went on the table. Kids drank milk at every meal.

(Robin) #36

Gosh, we were all a bunch of sneaky eaters as kids. And amen to toast with cinnamon sugar and SO MUCH BUTTER that you get get a 1/4 inch of the sweet concoction on top of it.

Man, that’s a sensory overload memory!

my Dr who was a keto baby Doc said full on forumla til that kiddo steals food from the table. easily near a year whatever, can’t remember now lol and then one day I handed her a pork rib and that kid sucked it down hook line and sinker.

key being I never did baby food mush carb crap. Doc lady said worst you can do is feed that kid mashed taters, or mashed bananas or anything, key being keep your keep on milk til they want…and when my daugher wanted, it was full on meat!

so I am glad I had that lady doc in my life on my kid, cause I woulda done the BS of baby carrots, baby mashed XYZ and I never bought a darn jar of that crap so I am happy I went my route on my info from my baby Doc.

my kid is not fat and never has been and is a ‘more meat hound’ lc person like me. I got lucky in my path for her benefit. I hit someone truly smart showing me the way

(Rebecca ) #38

Yes, money was extremely tight when I was young, too. We were certainly fed, but Mom had to stretch the food budget.

(Mark Rhodes) #39

See now I know you had an issue like me. i am allergic to alcohol. Every time I drink it I break out into handcuffs.

(Robin) #40

@marklifestyle HAHAHA
I may or may or may not resemble that remark.
The final years are a bit fuzzy… aka blackouts.
Every morning was a new day.

It was always exciting to roll over and see who was next to me.
fun to start my day with introductions!
