This is great. I’m going to use this one!! I’ve been getting a lot of comments lately about how I need to ‘eat more carrots’ and ‘you could do with some chips love’. One would think by now that after living the keto way for a good few months, people would start to back off…but they don’t!
What do you say to the naysayers?
Amen right there.
I couldn’t care less if they like it or they don’t like it or if someone else has a different version. Don’t care to argue or prove it either. Don’t bother with sticks or pokes or any other litmus test but what my body’s symptoms are telling me. I have never met a disrespectful person. In the beginning I think most people’s opinion is one of shock or not being able to comprehend. Once they’re familiar around us and how we eat, it’s not a big deal.
I hope you are all (the OP) able to minimize or reduce your health issues over time.
Both my parents are T2D, were since diagnosed 2010, but they didn’t tell us, I only found out recently!
Problem is my mum is also so called T3D and her memory is shot. Wish I knew last year when her memory worked. Now a hundred sermons about insulin will ever help.
I’m approaching it by saying “didn’t the doctor say you have to avoid sugary food?” “So that means instead of toast with jam you should have bacon and eggs with cheese.”
“Why” they say, because “bread turns into sugar in the blood”.
I cannot lie and push them into keto by stealth, but I can certainly stear them away from sugar, bread, rice, pasta and sweet fruit as much as I can.
I have made one half of one inch progress, only a mile to go … (must keep my cool).
I wish I could say the same. They do come in different packages, though. The last one that I met that was truly disrespectful was very pleasant about his tone of voice and gave a friendly appearance. But the speech was quite disrespectful and it was pretty obvious he had no interest in any kind of real conversation. I listened long enough to understand that and politely excused myself from the conversation.
It’s interesting that the person he was preaching to is obese and near diabetic and knows he needs to do something about it. He’s not to the point where he’s understanding that if he does the same things he’s always done, he’ll get the same results he’s always gotten.
“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Before that, it’s only futility.
I’m very sorry to hear that. Oddly, it was really the closest people to me that expressed strong confusion and dissent at the beginning like parents, friends etc. Otherwise, I think generally most have been very respectful. If they thought we were crazy, they didn’t say so. lol (which I’m thankful for)
I think the best you can do is be respectful to everyone and respect that even others may have an opinion. What matters is if you’re happy with yourself.
Salmon, broccoli? How about pork sausage, layered with bacon wrapped in bacon? I don’t apologize for my WOE.
For something to do the other day, I read the nutritional panels on my bacon and yoghurt. Bacon was 3.7% carbs and the yoghurt 5.2%. If you only count 1/2 the yoghurt carbs then it is lower carb than bacon.
Think I might tie a noose in a rope go outside and find a big tree with a solid branch.
That seems really high for bacon. Were There some weird sugars or something in it? Both types of bacon I eat say 0 carbs. Did you mean grams or percent?
Cheap bacon. 3.7g of carbs per 100g … 3.7%
I prefer yoghurt anyway. I went to have some bacon after my last fast and it had gone off and I had to buy fresh stuff the next day. Think I’ll pay more attention to the labels when I’m shopping.
You have to. I’ve made some doozies not reading labels. You know, like deli meat that turned out to be fat-free?
I think corn starch seems to be the biggest problem here. If a manufacturer can bulk up a product with something that costs a dollar a bucket and cut back on what used to be the main ingredient that costs $10 a bucket, then they’d be mad not to.
Yeah, my DH gave it the good old college try to give his mom the keto sales pitch, but she’s not buyin’ it right now. It was pretty obvious to me that she’s pretty against it right now. It’s been interesting hearing all of your points of view!
Totally agree with this!!
I’ve had similar conversations - with people who aren’t happy with their weight, and have openly admitted they can’t control themselves around a packet of biscuits, yet seem to think they know what’s best for me and my body! I’ll just continue to be a living example of the keto diet and let them get on with it! I refuse to get into a debate about it anymore…
It’s okay, as long as he doesn’t find out about the mother ship.
