What do you do for a living?

#81

I noticed some people have side gigs. My side gig is a serve as a classically-trained musician at an Episcopal Cathedral.

So one of my friends made the astute observation that music is my real life and being an attorney is my “muggle job.” :grinning:

There’s nothing wrong with that…or anyhting.

It’s just some might be restricted in broadcasting what they do.

(Robin) #83

Oh, groan! Took me a minute. Good one.

(Robin) #84

Remind me to never argue with you.

(Robin) #85

How do you like working from home?

(Robin) #86

Muggle job… good one.

(Marianne) #87

What was the temperature outside? Yesterday (in NY) was the hottest day of the year so far. What made it really bad was the humidity on top of it.

I really enjoy it! It’s just me and hubby so no distractions and sometimes I work longer hours just because there is nobody to stop by my office and visit LOL. I also like being able to take breaks and get some stuff done around the house throughout the day and then may work later in the evening. I used to have an hour commute when I lived in Houston and would be too tired to do more than the bare minimum when I got home.

Cool and no bother my friend.

This thread is absolutely fascinating!

So, schooling started our in music education and music therapy. This is what was expected of me- scholarships and everything! Did I stay with it? Nope. Changed my major to Public Administration and Public Law. Went to college year round, graduated with a double major in 4 years. Had a stint in government and was bored out of my skull. Worked as plain clothes retail security for various retailers (now that was fun!) as the main income for all the schooling. After police dispatching, ended up landing a job as a legal secretary (fast pace high stress, A type boss) That was a trip. Went to school at night in an accelerated program for Legal Assistant (Paralegal). finished that and then honed in on med mal. Went back to school AGAIN for tha specifically, and landed a dream job in a Med Mal firm, but wound up doing defense work for AIG- for one of the partners. That was probably one of my favorite jobs. Loved, loved loved doing legal research, writing, and investigating. Firm dissolved. Got head hunted by a Fortune 500 and ended up as the paralegal to one of the VP’s. Boring job, but the pay was insane.
Met my husband, got engaged and married. I did not need to work after that, so I started with a bit of seed money (gift from my Gran), and taught myself how to make chocolates. Always loved chocolate- goes back to me and my Daddy eating Hershey bars and hiding it from my Mom for over 40 years. Anyways, did online classes, read a ton of books, had a mentor-chocolatier for 13 years, and have had my own businesses for over 25 years. For the last 20 years, I’ve taught chocolate classes, as well as maintaining the business- which is more of a side hustle. Now you all know WHY I need to stay one KETO.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Hubby and I raise grass fed beef cattle (angus), breed turkeys, and have chickens (layers). Another side hustle. We make all our own hay, and sell the excess.
After my brother died unexpectedly in 2018, I needed to get out of the house to keep my mind occupied with something else. His death was too much to process. So, I gave my former boss a call. (I was her LP manager at another retailer.) She is now the manager of another retail/pharmacy.and I am one of her asst. mgrs.
Hobbies are still chocolate, but I love gardening, foraging, cheese making, kayaking, hiking, and picking agates. I’d like to think, if there were such a thing, I’d have made a good Hobbit.

I was in London for Christmas 1983. The weather was 55°F/13°C and rainy. The next time I was there was in July of 1986. The weather was 55°F/13°C and rainy. I could well believe you might want the heat on in July, lol!

Sorry, dude - I’m very literal.

(Marianne) #96

Wow, absolutely fascinating!!! You are amazing!

(Marianne) #97

My point exactly! Thanks, Paul!

#98

LOL. Hey no worries!

It was a lame joke about the cost of living/fuel these days.

#99

It was warm here at the start of the week (warm for Northern Ireland anyway, was a lot warmer in England).
A few days ago it was 31 degress C, or 87.8 F. (It was 41 degrees C in England, or 105.8 F.)
Today it is 18 degrees C, or 64.4 F.

Our infratucture can’t handle temps like that- the train tracks buckle, the road surface melts and we run out of potable water. :persevere:

Hey, in my book, no joke is a bad joke - keep 'em coming! If I don’t get them or it takes me a while, other people will!
