Warning: 10+ years keto and still need to use sunscreen

More anecdotes. I was getting sunburn every year, on a SAD diet, then on Keto. Not this year. I got red, yes. But no issues or pain, no flaky skin, no nothing. One day red, next day tanned.

I got most of my advantages and benefits ever since I’m leaving out vegetables, except onions.

It actually started a whole new detox cycle, with rashes, zits and fatigue, even harder than what I’ve got after starting keto. I thought that I was getting sick. It was just me flushing out the veggies, it seems.

And from what I’ve read, I can prepare for another cycle once I’m getting rid of the seed-oil crap that’s still somewhere in my deeper fat depos. If that is how it works.

I’m on a mission to 8% bodyfat to really get at the hidden stuff, straigthen that out, and then get some healthy weight and muscle back. Working on the muscles already, of course. Again, if that’s how it works. If not, then at least I’ve done a well documented experiment

Anyhow. I don’t sunburn anymore. 95% animal based ketovore. I’m walking around for three hours in the blasting sun and I’m fine. Northern European levels of blasting.

I love coffee, onions and regular icecream on a summer evening. 1.5 years carnivore with a month-long break around Christmas. I’m happy.

I don’t know if that’s how it works either, but I imagine my constitution getting cleaner and cleaner. The old adage is that you replace all your cells every 7 years. It’s not actually true but I love to think of myself as being a totally refreshed person in another 5 years or so.

Welcome and thanks for sharing your story!
Sounds like you have a plan and are making good things happen to your body. Well done. I look forward to hearing more as you go along.

I thought about this post earlier this week. I decided to fast last Monday night. I played two hours of tennis prior to starting my fast which I do not usually do. The next day was exceptionally sunny but I had misplaced my sunglasses. Rather than OPs experience, I had the opposite. Driving was absolute torture to the point where I wanted to pull over and look under the seat to find my glasses. It was like that the whole day. Everything was brighter than usual and it is August here, summer is almost over. No idea and I finally did find my glasses which was a huge relief.

Also, completely unrelated but was watching tennis on TV the other night. The court looked much brighter when I used one eye rather than the other. It is easy to tell because of the vivid green color of the court. No idea why other than perhaps I am getting a cataract in one? When I try to do it now, the room looks the same which ever eye I use. I have a thing where when I am very tired I only use one eye. Had this ever since I was young. I will notice when I am reading for a long time that one eye is closed. Meanwhile as I am typing this I am using both eyes. That was how I noticed it, decided to switch eyes and the screen looked brighter

I don’t get burned any more, but of course you have to be sensible. I am three and a half years carnivore so maybe still eating vegetables for you doesn’t help?

Kent Carnivore must have been listening…

I don’t believe that. I find that I can now stay in the sun far longer than I was ever able to, but eventually I will start to burn, no question. I’m not as bad as Bob, though; I can go for four or five hours without burning, these days (it used to happen in half an hour).

Yeah, and it has to do with how cholesterol is a precursor to a number of important chemicals the body produces, including Vitamin D.
