If there is any cosmic, universal sense of ‘fairness,’ the vastly-shorter lifespans of many pets never seemed fair to me.
Walking without a leash
Well, to be fair, it’s only in very recent human history that animals became pets
Hmm! Maybe a small and shorter-lived pet could be just the ticket for an older person who wants to travel?! Obviously not the same emotional level as a dog, but a lot easier to stick under your hat.
Haha. Actually there are a lot of limits on traveling with pets other than dogs and cats. One of my kids used to have rodents in college and they had to travel cargo.
In my late 50s I had a large dog and wanted a second one. I was considering getting a smaller one with the idea that I would be able to travel with them in the cabin (I will not put them in the hold unless it was for a permanent move and had no other choice). Well, as luck would have it, there was another one of the same breed available who needed fostering, about two years ago. We kept him and he is much bigger than the first dog. Then someone we know could not continue with their rescue and we ended up getting a small dog that I could travel with. Since he is the same age as the others (all about 3-5), I probably will never travel with him but who knows
