What about adding in some MCT oil?
My salad dressing is 1tbsp MCT oil, 1tbsp Olive oil, 1tbsp apple cider vinegar. That is about 28g of fat with no carbs or protein. Doubling it gives about 56g of fat. You can put it over broccoli sauteéd in butter, with some bacon bits and goat cheese.
Too much fat maybe?
If you’re forcing yourself to eat more when you’re not hungry, it probably is.
My take is that calculating a guesstimate of a fat macro isn’t all that helpful, because if you are trying to lose weight, you have no way to measure how much of your fat needs are being satisfied by stored body fat. Ideally, hunger would be an indicator of that.
You need to keep carbs low to stay in ketosis.
You need to make sure you get enough proteins, because your body needs them.
But fat? I say let hunger be the guide.
I use that in my BPC, I try to stick to 1 tbsp a day but I can bump that up if needed.
I’m right there with you. I make a KETO frappucino in the morning and I’m good all day. Dinner is a conscious choice because I know I need to eat, but it’s usually a just a salad. I keep cheesecake fat bombs in the freezer in case I need to satisfy a sweet hunger. But if the recipe makes 3, I end up with 9 because I just can’t eat a golf ball size fat bomb.
Sorry I don’t have any clear answers. I am in a very similar boat and wondering about the same things.
I have basically stalled in March. I’m taking the time to address other health matters.
I was chronically vitamin D deficient, had muscle cramps but ignored those, recently had difficulty with bowel movements so that caught my attention. Now taking vitamin D and magnesium supplements. I am very pill-o-phobic but I can see the need. I can feel the difference they are making. Good.
I’m thinking about dairy, exercise …, or just hanging in there with no changes … see what happens in 4 more weeks, I guess I’m not in a big hurry.
To address the topic’s subject line - I don’t think “too much fat” is the reason. Or too little or too many calories. I think 1500 sounds right for a woman… have you changed any pills, medication or supplements … anything we digest changes the story. And of course hidden carbs can always spring up.
Nope, no medications, no dietary changes, only positive health changes. All of my levels are spot on from my blood work done about 3 weeks ago. I’ve been tracking total carbs just to make sure there are no missing carbs anywhere and I’m under 20 all the time. My ketones are consistently between .5 and 1. Like you, I’m going to just keep chugging away and see where things go. Just because I’ve hit a road block I’m definitely never quitting keto. I’ve had too many positive health benefits to quit, so that’s not even a concern for me. Time to start chanting my personal mantra… “Go with the flow”. The fat will disappear when my body is ready to let it go.
The bulletproof coffee might be your issue. I have seen lots of people use BPC as a hack to lose weight in the beginning. It’s a major fat bomb and keeps you satiated for hours. The problem is that the lack of calories can eventually slow your metabolism and cause you to stall. Try switching it up! Maybe try drinking your coffee black or with a little cream and then eat when you’re hungry. I bet you’ll feel hungry sooner and eat more food, which will rev that metabolism. Try that for a bit and then when it feels right to you switch it up by doing a little fasting, tightening your eating window, or even going back to your fatty coffee.
I eat 2 scrambled eggs with 1oz cheese, 1 tbsp guac, 1 oz bacon or sausage with it every morning. i hate coffee on an empty stomach. It makes me feel gross but I need the caffeine. In my bpc I add 2 tbsp hwc (0 carb), .31ml liquid stevia (doesn’t affect my bg), 1 scoop collagen, 1 tbsp coconut oil, sometimes 1 tbsp of butter, and a dash of cinnamon. My breakfast totals around 800 cals and then I’ll eat another 700 cals for dinner in the form of meat, cheese, butter, and steamed broccoli. Thats a typical day. 1500 cals and my tummy is just not hungry… but FULL.
Congrats, reverse dieting can take a while to get the fire going again, I’m currently in my second round of it thanks to my own stupidity, I’ve been down this road, fixed it, and here I am again. Eating to satiety was what got me. Left to my hunger/satiety signal’s I naturally under eat. I don’t eat like a pigeon either, I eat decent meals but for somebody with a physical job, and that’s in the gym 6 days/week and 4 of them are lifting, I just won’t naturally eat enough. Never hungry, feel fine, but the BMR starts creeping down after a while. Best method is controlled and steady caloric increases. First thing though ignore something like 2lbs, a couple drinks can put that on you by itself. Go by what you know works for you, if your eating 1500 now and maintaining (+/- 2lbs is definitely maintenance) there’s your starting point. Add say 100-200 cals/day for a week or two or three and see what it gets you. If you start doing it in a structured way, remember that caloric intake wherever you set it becomes a goal, not a limit. Sometimes it’s hard to get it in if your body is trying to tell you no more, but you gotta stick your foot up your metabolisms ass and get it running. Also, are you able to trade that moderately sedentary for some working out? That’s going to have a HUGE impact on getting it up, especially at first.
Honestly, I despise traditional “work outs” with the fire of 1000 suns. You couldn’t get me into a gym if you paid me. I do however participate in fun activities that I don’t think of as a work out so I forget to count them. Like skiing, rafting, etc. I used to race dragon boats and loved it so I should get back into doing that again.
Oh, my lord, don’t let Gabe catch you saying that!
Eat to satiety is the right approach. Don’t eat past satiety. Stalls are just normal, especially when you’ve lost 30lbs in 3 months. I say shake it up a bit, sounds like your body has got used to what you are doing.
That was my thought as well.
A few points to consider:
-
Go back to total carbs. You were successful before with this. Maybe your body is just more comfortably giving up fat when your are carbs are lower?
-
Maybe stress is more involved with the stall than you realize? You seem to be eating at a caloric deficit and are not having energy issues. Try to include more activities in your life that get you to relax.

I love cheese and butter but I don’t believe we need large amounts of them in a successful WOE. After fat adaptation, I reluctantly (at first) reduced how much cheese and butter I was eating and it seemed to help my weight loss journey. Dairy is my new candy. I look at it as a treat… not something I need. Maybe this approach might be useful to you.
Your body may just want to hang out here for a little and trust that you will continue to feed it and take care of it. I assume that if you get the occasional ravenous days you go ahead and feed your body?
If you want to trouble shoot, maybe see if the sweeteners are still making no negative difference for you. I’ve found that as my body gets more healthy, I have fewer conflicting signals in my body so it gets easier to tell if there are foods that aren’t the best for me. Not terrible, but also not so ideal. Until 2 weeks ago, confused signals from my body hid the fact that cabbage does a serious number on my digestion. Maybe your signals have calmed down and you may be seeing an impact from some of your food choices?
I’m 39, 5’7, have 2 young kids, I’m in the northeast and I went from 185 to 158 this year, with a pretty solid (and intentional) plateau during March so we are pretty similar but obviously not the same. I’ve also been lower carb for about 3 years, but not keto until this year.
Its been 2 days since my post and in that 2 days, I cut back my dairy to only butter and 2 tbsp of hwc in my morning coffee and did a 24 hr fast and I broke through that stubborn +/- 2 lbs and lost 3. I’m going to keep up with a 24 hr fast one or two days a week and continue with my dairy cut for the next month to get a firm grip on moving past that stubborn hump. Thanks for the help and input you guys gave me! It helped.
