Sunburned

(Leslie) #22

I wish I had thought of the possibility that it was an allergic reaction. The swelling was more pronounced on one leg than the other, but I would not be surprised if it might have been a histamine response. I will definitely file that little morsel of advice in my drawer of helpful hints. Thank you

That’s so interesting. Especially with the familial aspect thrown in. I wonder…

Nope, I burn just as easily from sun on keto as without. Meaning I burn easily. LoL. My friends joke that I’m a vampire, but yeah I just need to do more work outside I guess.

Look at what I found
I’m not eating any omega 6’s and I am eating a ton of omega 3’s and polyphenol rich foods
But it’s still a very interesting article

I found this out a couple weeks ago when I used a sunscreen that I have used many times pre-keto. This time after about 30 minutes after applying, it looked like I had sprayed myself with a fake tanning spray as I had this brown greasy stuff all over me. It was as if I were being slow broiled alive :open_mouth:
It did wipe off with a towel and there was no after affects but it definitely raise a little concern. I threw the bottle away and as suggested above, will opt to go without in the future as I am not real susceptible to burning anyways.
It was just very odd.:flushed:

I’m glad you found some relief. Here is an interesting article about sunscreen, and things to use instead. Or at least how to do it safely.

Well I started to peel this afternoon if you call it that, its actually like blisters with oil under them its really creepy, but the burning finally stopped. I am still red, and normally it only lasts a couple days for me this is almost six days now.

Eeewwwwwww, that’s freaky.
I’m still suffering and it’s been almost a week. Granted, things are much better but my left leg remains sore and my calf and ankle are swollen by the middle of the day. My husband generously massages it every evening and the swelling goes down overnight only to return. My burnt skin is the most peculiar shade of violet-ish, not red, not purple, not normal. I’m still quite befuddled.

I am leaning more toward the possibility of a reaction to the SS

I am also going to try to back off of the idea that I have to use such a strong, hard core SPF having done some research on the deleterious effects of such

This remains a mystery

I developed a slight sun allergy pre keto, and I had it for years now. But I noticed it is finally getting better after getting worse in the beginning. Also fasting helped a lot. I account it to my gut finally healing…
