Your stats sound very similar to mine, except I was 165 16 years ago and 256 when I decided I needed to change the way I ate. In June 2017, I decided to cut out all unnatural sugars, breads and pasta, after finding out I was pre-diabetic. I still ate fruits everyday, occasionally had potatoes and never bothered to step on the scale till Dec. 2017. I was down to 222. Not only had I lost weight, my overall health had improved greatly. I had more energy, I was in a much better mood and I was even able to get off meds I had been on for over a year. Because of all the positive results I was seeing on my low carb no sugar diet, I decided to take things a step further and went full blown keto on Dec. 9. Since going keto, I am now down to 195 and feeling better than ever!
I also wanted to share with you that I have a tremendous sweet tooth and love chocolate and desserts! I have a passion for cooking and baking sweets, and yet still to this day, I cook fully loaded carb meals and desserts for family and friends, and I have never caved once…not even a finger lick! (Although, I have been tempted on occasion.) What helps me stay strong is knowing, feeling and seeing the progress I have made and deciding that I’m not going to let a single cookie, cake, ice cream, etc, get in the way of my goals…IT’S NOT WORTH IT!
Giving up sugar was one of the hardest things I had to do, especially since I’ve always been the designated dessert maker for home or get togethers. So that day in June when I decided no more sugar, I decided to test myself, and I baked. I baked 4 dozen cookies AND made my favorite dessert, (dark chocolate cake), and kept them on the kitchen counter for as long as they lasted. I wanted to challenge myself and figured if I caved and gave into temptation, then I wasn’t ready to pursue a way of eating that didn’t include sugar. I wanted to prove to myself that I was serious in wanting a change.
If you want to live healthier and for 175 to happen, know that it CAN happen. The question is…how bad do you want it? Is your want for cookies or ice cream more than your want to be healthier and 175 again? Set your goals and be firm. Don’t let little things like carbs and sugar get in your way. You have your goal…now go and get it! You already have 1 foot in the door, now all you have to do is come on in and enjoy the ride. You won’t regret it!

You’ve gotten such great advice on here and I’m just going to echo something I only saw mentioned once: track your inches rather than your weight. Even though the size loss is a side perk for most folks- they feel so amazing on Keri, just that would be enough- inch loss is a much more valuable indicator from the vanity/ I want to look like-I -did-when-I-got-married perspective.

I know that I have not eaten my last ever piece of German Chocolate cake. Or my last ever loaded baked potato. Or my last plate of mac & cheese. Or french fries. Or ice cream sundae. Or buttered croissant.

I know that I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. And I’m convinced that being in a state of ketosis most of the time is essential to achieving this.

In reconcile this by using fasting as a tool for improving my insulin resistance and increasing my dietary flexibility. It’s easier for me to say no to all foods some of the time, than to say no to some foods all the time.
