Maybe something in here could help you?
Steady (unwanted) weight gain...11 months Keto
@elz since you mentioned hair fall and pms symptoms there might be something going on with your hormones😕 we all know that can cause weight gain.
Thanks @Alex99.
I never counted calories or restricted before and maintained a steady healthy weight. When I started keto I started tracking and tried not to limit calories and follow hunger cues…so that is where the calories come from. I have zero interest in being hungry !!
Like I said, I had no weight to lose and decided to do keto for moral support for my husband and to optimize health and performance. I haven’t seen any benifit from keto that would justify me limiting my intake and being hungry.
@Monurse Yes, I’m checking into this…have a Dutch test waiting here for me to get to the right cycle day! . Hopefully it might shed some light but I have a feeling it’s going to be a process in figuring out how to lose this new found fat.
Thanks for the support!
@Alex99…for sure at the time when the hair finally stopped shedding and my protein was higher I lost definitely thought it may well have been a total coincidence! But I was still reluctant to lower protein at that time just in case! And I would test blood Ketones after high protein days and didn’t see an impact.
Now maybe over time the steady higher protein levels have caused a problem… ?
Someone in the forum who also has PCOS introduced me to an app called “my flo” it’s been VERY helpful getting my cycle back on track, and helping me understand whats going on with my hormones. Feel free to message me if you’d like more info.
Just want to add, I feel very confident that carbs are not the problem. I did not get lax with carbs, don’t do sweetener on a regular basis (rarely use). Don’t do processed or packaged snacks etc. at the beginning I was hitting the 20 net carbs daily but after I got used to the eating style etc I’ve brought the carb count down, definitely not up. I stayed very strict with carbs because I was waiting for that increased performance and all the other magical things that people experience with keto.
I don’t have the energy slump in the afternoon that I used to have daily and I’ve had somewhat of an improved mood or mental clarity at times but not to the extent that I hoped for or other people talked about. So for these reasons I kept on counting and tracking and staying strict even though I wanted to move away from that. Like I said I had no weight issues before with zero counting etc so thisnisnt really the direction I wanted to go. I hear so many people talk about how they found food freedom with keto…I seem to have lost mine.
Dr Eric Westman talks about it here - I don’t believe he mentions anything about protein, he mentioned “a shock to the system can do it” and it takes a while but you do get it all back …
I’m wondering about possible seasonality to metabolism. Since I live in the north, we are still in the icy grips of winter; spring is just a tease right now. In the warmer months I exercise like crazy. Up to two hours each day, in the bright noon time sunlight. I supplement vitamin D more in winter. Despite my reduction in physical activity in winter I have not gained weight (I’m in maintenance not loss mode). If I did want to shed some pounds I’d guess it would be easier in the summer with the added exercise, both in terms of burning calories, but the mental benefits as well.
