Starting my journey on January 17th

#21

The key thing is that you started! Welcome aboard the Keto train.

The boredom snacking should go away once your blood sugar levels out,I know for me I didn’t like snacking but started doing it more towards the end without even realizing it ,because my blood sugar would keep crashing and I would crave something to give me energy and feel better for a bit,now cravings are gone and doing one meal a day is no problem,I wish you success on your new life

:bullettrain_front: wooo wooo!

Thank you Kate!

Thanks, Mark

I look forward to the cravings going away, also keeping myself busy will help too. I feel like its a lot like how a smoker needs to quit smoking, there are trigger times when I just think to myself ā€œOh I need a snackā€ one of them is driving home from work ā€œThis could be a long drive home, I better grab a snackā€ sort of thing.

So far so good… but how can you miss sweets when you can eat bacon right?

Hello everyone,

Thought I would check in, its been quite a journey so far, and have some amazing results, and some not so great ones, and a bit of a struggle, I’m guessing I’ll have a bit of a fight with my PCP.

Since starting I am down from 294ish to 254ish, So that is great.

I just got my bloodwork results back from the lab and got some mixed results:

First off, my A1c is supurb, down to 5.2, that is down from 11.8, that is the biggest thing to me, the fat loss is great, but the control of my BG is what this has all been about for me…

My cholesteral numbers are a little out of wack, at least from my doctor’s perspectives:
Total: 229
HDL: 50
LDL: 165

My Tri’s are great though, 76

The above doesn’t concern me, I opted to pay for the Advanced Lipid Panel, had to fight with them to do it, but they wrote the script for it, insurance didn’t cover it, but I’d gladly pay to know.

Small LDL: 170
Med LDL: 285
Lrg LDL: 4871
Lp PLA2: 150
Pattern: A (Good kind)

I would like the see better ratios, I am hoping they will improve with time, I need to learn more about how to positively effect these.

BUT, the one that does concern me is my C-Reactive Protein is at 10.0 Anything about a 3 is a red flag… I’m thinking this may be the result of something else going on, perhaps arthritis?

Well done Rondo that’s some awesome & incredible improvement in A1C & weight loss.

First, congratulations on all the positive changes! It looks like things are moving in the right direction.

One thing to consider is: have you added or increased any foods since going keto that maybe you rarely ate or maybe ate in small amounts previously? If you are sensitive to nuts, for example, and you suddenly started eating lots of nuts, that could cause inflammation. Also, dairy is a very common culprit and not just because of the lactose but the protein. People tend to use a lot of dairy on the keto diet.

I cannot eat any dairy. If I do, it gives me itchy, painful bumps on my back, (Why only there?), and painful joints, especially my lower back.

I am a firm believer in food intolerances being a major culprit in many health problems.

Please keep the updates coming,
Edith

Gosh. I’ve been getting these itchy bumps on my back lately. Not painful and not associated with leg pain. Maybe a good reason to cut dairy a while . That IS one of my keto stumbling blocks.

(Ron) #29

Thank you, still a long way to go, but I feel so much better!

(Ron) #30

Hmm, that is an interesting thought…

I have increased the amount of nuts I have eaten, that could very well be part of what is happening, never thought about allergies.

I hate the thoughts of being intolerant to dairy… while I do eat quite a bit of it, I don’t think I really eat more than I used to. I have been toying around with the idea of cutting dairy out or at least back… that does eliminate a big portion of food though.

Does that include butter for you? I hear a lot of people say when it comes to food intolerance butter doesn’t really count at ā€œdairyā€

Hi Ron,

I think food intolerance is different than allergy. For years I believe I had more of an intolerance. As long as I did not eat yogurt, cheese, or milk I seemed to be okay. If a food had a small amount of dairy in it, I didn’t worry about it.

About four or five years ago I was having a lot of back trouble. The Chiropractor said I was developing degenerative disc disease. I had to cut way back on exercise and when I did exercise I had to take several days to recover. I was always uncomfortable.

One evening I was weak and ate some pizza, the next day my joints were swollen and my knee hurt. I decided then to cut out every bit of dairy. In less than a week all the back trouble was gone.

Now, if I have even the tiniest amount, including butter, or even a whey powder seasoning on some chips, I know it the next day. So, for me I think it went from intolerance to allergy.

What’s interesting is I still had some stiff neck issues even after going dairy free, but those have gone since I started keto. The keto has seemed to help whatever else was causing inflammation. Maybe it was sugar.

Btw, I think ghee may not count as buttter since it has been clarified, but I am not willing to take the chance.

Good luck,

Edith

I’ve noticed the same with dairy. I have been off this week and my joints feel way better.
