Spike in blood glucose meter reading

I see that you were insulted by my comment, Bob M. That wasn’t my intention.

You are exercising heavily. Why wouldn’t your glucose go up?

A number of factors determine your HbA1C reading, and this isn’t necessarily a problem. Your mitochondrial health, the metabolic efficiency of your muscles, your level of insulin resistance, the lifespan of your red corpuscles, and your carbohydrate intake are among the factors involved.

Bear in mind that HbA1C is used as a sort of three-month rolling average of your serum glucose level, but it is not actually that. What it is, is a measure of the level of glycation of your haemoglobin. If you are in ketosis, the β-hydroxybutyrate made by your liver will help keep your body’s endogenous defenses against oxidation and glycation high. These defenses are deactivated by a high level of serum insulin which, in this context, is more relevant than serum glucose. Or so I understand.
