Soda on Keto?

:joy::rofl::joy: You probably couldn’t remember because vodka would make a strong drink even more so.

#42

Nope, vodka lowered the average alcohol content… It’s only 40% or something, the other booze was 80%. And I don’t even think it did something crazy, some booze mixes are worse than the separate ones… I am not particularly experienced at that.

Check the ingredients. Citric acid is usually what’s added for “bite.” Carbonated drinks without citric acid taste noticeably milder.

You could switch from Barq’s to A&W to ween yourself off caffeine.

#44

the ones where the bite was the issue did not have citrus acid, namely la croix

the ones that did i disliked due to other flavor issues.

I’m not concerned about the caffine right now, I found a coffee cream milk that has only 3.4 net carbs per 8fl oz. as well as already weening myself off the caffeine sodas by drinking less a day.

Glad to hear it. Citric acid erodes tooth enamel like nobody’s business.

CO2 dissolves into water as carbonic acid. The ‘bite’ of carbonated water is simply the slightly acidic carbonic acid portion, which varies depending on the degree of carbonation.

#47

I think so too, carbonic acid can add a potent bite as I experienced… I love that.

Try the new Pepsi Prebiotic Cola. They also make a cherry vanilla.
It’s made with Stevia.

We’ve been on a “Club Soda” kick for a year or so now. It’s carbonated water with a tiny bit of minerals in it, no sugar. Have heard some suggest it might actually be healthy.

It’s what we drink if we want more than water, especially in the evening.

Have heard that machines like Soda Stream and similar have flavors that can be added, dunno, never did that.

There are options!

Sugared sodas are absolutely the worst healthwise, and yes, do have enough sugar to pull you out of ketosis. Aspartame forms formaldehyde in the body and is pro-cancerous. Sucralose will kill off gut microbiota. These are used because they make you hungry and want more.
Powdered stevia does have an aftertaste. Lately, I have been buying “naturally” flavored soda waters, and adding my own stevia drops. I find these to be very pleasant tasting: https://www.pipingrock.com/products/sweeter-stevia-liquid-2-fl-oz-59-ml-dropper-bottle-10880 This extract is made with rabaudioside, and doesn’t have the aftertaste of steviosides. One of these bottles lasts me for months at 8 drops per drink, and makes my soda habit quite cheap - on the order of $0.40 per can or less. I do buy the soda water on sale. Much cheaper habit than the colas, etc. Zevia is another option, and I do use them for the occassional root beer.
