Sick and super hungry

It’s my emphatic agreement, moshing in the pit with the horns up response, yeah

(NB: poster is WAY too old to actually be moshing anywhere, let alone a pit)

Update:

Day 3 of prednisone and cefidinir!

  • Sleeping less than 4 hours per night. Energy high!

  • Breathing much better and lungs clearing out :grinning:

  • Using my nebulizer with Albuterol instead of inhaler and Continuing Advair 500/50 per Pulmonologist

  • Using my SmartVest 4X/Day (Shaky Shaky)

  • Stayed :100:Keto!!! :raised_hands:

Okay so here is where I need help friends!

So my blood glucose has been under 100 for the last 6 weeks.

This am my fasting blood sugar was 140
My Ketone Breathalyzer was 1.0
My Blood Ketones were 1.0

Yikes! My diabetes is back!!! Nooooo!!!

Any thoughts at all or do I ignore since it is steroid induced? But I was so bummed as my dose of prednisone was yesterday at 5:00pm.

And of course another 20mg at 8:30am this morning so I know it was the “After dose Reaction to the prednisone.”

Here is a pic of my logs

Tia!!

I would suggest ignoring the blood readings while you are on prednisone. That is a known side effect of taking prednisone. Your glucose levels will return to normal quickly after the prednisone is completed.

As a side comment - I just had to start a 40 mg x 5 day prednisone dose because I am getting a cold and have to hit it right away to prevent asthma problems.

So you have a comrade in prednisone hell at least.

@JohnH how are you feeling?

I am feeling :100: better but the stupid Prednisone threw me out of Ketosis. I have been in Ketosis since 24 hours of starting Keto!

Now 2.5 months in 5 days of the meds :boom:!

Urine:-
Blood: low
Breath:0.0 ( not drunk either!)

I am at a loss and would love any advise!

TIA! :+1:

I am actually feeling pretty good. I can tell I have an underlying chest cold and my voice sounds like I am sick, but the prednisone is masking most of the symptoms. And no asthma issues overwhelming my daily meds, which is the goal.

Today is the last dose of prednisone on my 5-day x 40mg course, so the next few days I expect both a post-pred crash as well as lingering symptoms from the cold.

Can’t tell you about ketone readings because I am on a business trip this week and left my urine strips at home.

I still seem to be dropping weight and have been consciously watching food intake so I think it won’t be much of a setback if any.

By the way, thanks for thinking to ask. Much appreciated.

Oh man, why didn’t they step you down? I always feel like someone punched me in the jaw and neck coming off pred. After that, I just started breaking them into halves and quarters to taper myself off.

So glad you are feeling better!

(Michelle isaacson) #27

That is exactly the same dosage they put me on. 20 mg twice daily X 5 days.

Must be the popular dose!

I find the short-term level dose regimen works much better with very few side effects compared to the old 2-week long taper.

Today is first non-pred day. Kept my eating under control easily. Unexpected keto benefit.

Still have remnants of the cold but mostly feeling better. I am hoping to get a full night’s sleep tonight.

Yes! I didn’t sleep much last week! Now I am feeling it! I hope you get the sleep! Keep getting better! I also noticed I wasn’t starving on the steroids! Great Keto side effect!

I hope you and I down the road can say we didn’t need the steroids!!!
