Quick and dirty potassium question

(Robin) #21

Thanks for the heads up. After reading more, I cut my dosage in half. How much do you advise taking on keto?

Personally I don’t supplement it at all, beyond adding a little Lite-Salt to my first coffee of the day.

There’s a good chance that, if your salt intake is in the right range, you don’t need to supplement magnesium, potassium, or calcium at all. The body maintains its levels of these minerals with interlinked mechanisms. Salt is the easiest place to start, because our salt intake is the easiest to manipulate.

I keep reading older posts on this topic, and they are all over the place, just like us humans. But since I now realize my natural Calm magnesium was causing my bathroom issues, I’ve cut it in half to just once a day. And I was taking 2400 mg potassium a day, hoping it would help with the nightly leg cramps. So, I didn’t take any last night. I drank a large glass of warm water with 1 tsp of salt in it instead. A couple times I was aware that I was on the cusp of cramping, but did not. However, I woke up so dry and parched that I downed water like crazy. (Salt related?) So… think I’ll stay this course and see what happens. Maybe 600 mg potassium, 1 dose Mag Calm in the am (no pm), and keep up with the salt. Then re-evil in a week.
