No satiety signals anymore

(Vivi) #1

Hey Guys,

another newbie, another drama… the last five days my body is driving me crazy! No matter how much I ate there is no feeling of satiety anymore. My stomach is pretty full but my body is feeling kind of stressed not getting what it needs. So I always going to sleep dissatiesfied and waking up compelled to eat. I’ve recognised that the last few weeks that my hunger has worsened and now it feels like satiety has vanished. What is going on?
My macros are < 30g of total carbs, Max 120g P and massiv amounts of fat! As a result my calorie intake is about 4000-4700. I started with 2600.
After 8 weeks I definitly don’t feel fat-adapted.

Looking forward for your help!

PS: It surely doesn’t depend on my water intake, I drink plenty of it!

Hunger vs Satiety (Eat to satiety?)

Have you tried going under 20 g carbs. May be you are being triggered. Also, what are you eating carb wise (low carb meal bars or whole foods?) Are you literally hungry or craving?

Are you getting all of your electrolytes (salt mainly)?

Also, how long have you been eating low carb?

Thanks for your respond.

On a few days, maybe once or twice per week I ate less then (total) 20g of carbs and always whole foods. According the ketostix I’m definitely in ketosis, they are deep purple. But isn’t it more a sign, that to many ketones are just wasted?
I supplement potassium, magnesium and eat plenty of salt about 1 1/2 Tablespoon per day.
This week I felt even energized, no keto flu-signs; my muscles weren’t stiff anymore, no headache or fatigue. My workouts are still lacking during weights, but I’m slowly working my way back on cardio. Actually I feel really great, beside this strange dissatisfaction. I’m not even craving for carbs.
Between my 2-3 meals I usually pause for 4-6 hours and from the last meal till breakfast I fast about 12-16 hours. But this week was difficult!

Today I finished my 8. week of keto.

This is important for ketosis. If you are having trouble with calories you might try skipping breakfast and if possible eventually lunch. It’s hard to break the typical eating routine. I know once I start eating, it’s hard to stop so IF has been great.

Perhaps there is a connecrion to my workouts? . Last week I paused cause I still felt fatigue and started this monday to train every day.
Could it be that my body still doesn’t know which energy source to use for the muscles? And it’s just craving for anykind of energy?

Thanks for the tip, I just try OMAD

My sietity signals are better days that I do intermittent fasting or one meal a day. (IF OMAD). This week with the holidays I have had 3 meals a day and even some snacks. Less sietity signals. I’m guessing that when I get fully into fasting the signals will improve.

Think about your sleep and exercise.

If these are not good your body will feel stressed, raise cortisol which then raises insulin.
With high insulin the body will probably not feel satiated as it cannot get to its local fat stores and will depend totally on dietary intake (making you hungry).

Remember you are trying to delicately affect your hormones - not do CICO.

Good sleep means over 7 hours and a feeling that it was fairly deep sleep (which usually means cutting back on or cutting out caffeine - also something known to raise cortisol).

Good exercise (while keto adapting) is something like no more than 20 or 30 minutes of light walking a day.

Thanks for your thoughts, sounds logic to me…

Before I startet Keto I used to train 4-6 times a week. I love doing weightlifting and cardio, its just not for loosing weight, it’s really a hobby. Over the weeks of adaptation I often paused and worked out only 3-4 times or even not at all.
Despite the fatigue I try to keep up my levels, because the thought of loosing to much muscle scares me a bit. Perhaps I should really step back…

This week I slept more (9 1/2 h) than I usually do (7-8h) I was really tired in the evening. Except of tonight I was fine with 7 1/2 hours.

Caffeine shouldn’t be a problem, I never used to take energy drinks.

But do you now how professional athletes survive the adaptationphase? How do they train?

I think it might be changing but I think most professional athletes (non-endurance sport types) still carb cycle for explosive performance (which they can burn off much more quickly than non-professional athletes).

When you have millions on the line - you probably do not want to accept anything resembling “downtime” for keto flu / adaptation.
