NMR Done. I'm Not Supposed to Know More Than My Doctor

(Adriana Gutierrez) #21

Have you had a Coronary Calcium Scan? A score of zero was how I got my doctor to feel comfortoabke about my refusal to take statins despite a cholesterol score of 260.

That is scary confusing because the body makes it’s own saturated fat so how could you lack it?

That’s what most adipose cells are, so why would we need to eat more of it other than to initialize or train the liver to oxidize it? Providing you are over-weight and not trying to maintain a certain weight why would you over-eat dietary fat?

Showing less or more of it in the blood stream makes no sense? Proving you can eat more fat and thinking or falsely assuming it still cannot do damage is a bad way to row your boat?

The short answer is, if your eating a lot of refined sugars and no fiber then saturated fat or any fat is bad news when contrasting it with or to blood lipid profiles?

Vitamin C and Refined Sugar or Glucose compete to either damage or protect the the endothelial wall in the veins and arteries.

If your eating lots of sugar with dietary fat then I would be on the high alert and panic mode when looking at lipid profiles that somethings not right?

I personally always keep Vitamin C as well as fat soluble K in high regard as a vital nutritional need.

Only draw back is Vitamin C can make ketones falsely look high just like high hemocrit levels which will do the same?

Glycocalyx you get from Vitamin C is absolutely vital to cardiovascular health and when you eat a lot of salt or take in extreme salt loads on a ketogenic diet; sodium and potassium will strip vascular walls of veins and arteries of Glycocalyx and damage the endothelium on the vascular walls, so those of you preaching about eating a lot of salt on keto better be eating lots of Vitamin C also?

Triglycerides (dietary & endogenous sugars) are like shards of glass bouncing off your now stripped endothelium because vitamin C might be lacking? Same goes for the formation of plaque and calcium buildup, if it can’t stick to the walls of the endothelium your clean as a whistle?

I’m trying to work up the nerve for a CAC. I have high anxiety and to me getting anything that isn’t zero would be like a death clock. The reason I’m afraid is because I spent 7 years weighing 285. I had gastric bypass and today I’m 129. I’m scared to know what I did to my system in that 7 years. I will do it one day. I’m just not ready.

I understand. Still… you have a CAC score today. Right now! You just don’t know what it is.

Once you know it, you can use that as a baseline. Then the next time you have a CAC scan, you can compare the numbers and SEE HOW BENEFICIAL your lifestyle changes have been. And THAT is something that will greatly reduce your anxiety, perhaps?

Something to think about as you weigh the pros and cons of knowing vs. waiting until “someday.”

I second what Logullo said.

I had one and was disappointed to see myself in the mid range area, but I also have learned what changes I had to do to lower that score. I changed up my supplements and finally got around to using a water pic device daily. While I haven’t had a follow up scan yet, thanks COVID-!9 :frowning: , I have noticed I am no longer getting plaque build up behind my teeth, which is a sign my minerals are now going where they should and hopefully not in my heart.

It is good to know your score because you can reverse your numbers. I plan to reschedule when I am no longer staying in house, I am very high risk and won’t be going out for unneeded things until a cure/ vaccine is in place.

If you haven’t already check out https://thefatemperor.com/podcasts/. There are a number of discussions about the score, how to slow/stop/or reverse your number if it is on the higher side.

BTW, I blame my mid range number on following the low fat gospel for so many decades. I was grainarian primarily, eating only small amounts of meats and eggs, with some beans & potatoes thrown for variety. I was so stupid back then, thought I was eating so healthy, yet I have never been more healthy than since going keto/low carb healthy fat WOE.

Good luck on sorting yourself out.

Markers

My doctor called me about my results. He said he’s never ordered one and asked me if I’m happy with the results. I told him I was because my LDL size was 22.9. Honestly, that’s the only number I knew to look for to see if I was pattern A. Can anyone else give me some insight? I’m concerned about the LDL Particle Number being high because it’s in the red and I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.
