My frustration rant

@BlueViolet, do you recommend eliminating all milk products (i.e. cram with coffee, as well as cheese?), and if so, is this permanent, or only temporary?

Sometimes the best way to go about it is to first get that referral (that you really don’t want) so you can go back to your primary care doc and say “I need a referral to Dr. EFG because Dr. ABC Dr. EFG doesn’t meet my needs.” I kinda did this with a nutritionist referral… I made an appointment within my medical group so that I could tell my primary care doc that it wasn’t what I needed (not knowledgable about Keto). Its how insurance and medical groups work. If there is someone in-network then they will pay for that, if someone is out of network you need good reason to do that (like no one in network available).

Thanks, Jane. Just got in from working in the yard all day, so going to read through now. Back in a few.

Was this prescribed for weight loss/appetite control? Low dopamine levels? The most common use of this drug is for addiction impulse control. :cowboy_hat_face:

I wondered about that as well. Seemed a bit odd, really, like just throwing SOMEthing at it to be able to say he’s throwing something at it.

@Nearly2Years there are more than a few folks on here including me who have accelerated weight loss/broken a stall by eliminating all dairy and veg; anecdotal for sure but so harmless, and enough anecdotal evidence, that I’d say why not try? Absolutely no harm can come therefrom. Check some of the carnivore threads, tagging @Ilana_Rose, @Dread1840, @MarkGossage, @Brenda

I am currently doing it to get the last 10lb off; some do it permanently and have fab results! I would do it forever except I miss CHEEESE like it was a lover gone off to war

@Maisri They are exploring other off shelf applications for Naltrexone now. My son is on a very low dose (have to pay for the pharmacy to make the capsules to order) supposedly as a therapy for his autism. His mom is on board with the doctor, I’m not. Usually it’s given to ASD people who are a danger to themselves or others to control violent impulses. :cowboy_hat_face:

Yes it’s being used with success in some cases, to treat Crohn’s.

So is carnivore, I would much rather take that road. :cowboy_hat_face:

Huh, I guess I’m behind the times. Interesting.

David, you’ve received a lot of good advice here. from people with much more knowledge than I have. I can, however, speak to the foot surgery. I had foot surgery in January (my doctor wouldn’t consider both feet for fear of DVT) and still don’t feel back to normal. It’s not so much the lack of mobility, as the stress and frustration from not being able to just get up and do (just ask my family how that’s been for me). You may not want to hear this, but I would suggest relaxing a bit and letting your body continue healing before worrying about the weight gain. You’re still down 50 pounds, and I would bet, due to your WoE, that your healing was faster than expected due to lack of inflammation. Take those wins for now, continue improving your mobility, and everything will fall back into place again.

@Nearly2Years … As Jane mentioned, I had to have Emergency Surgery back in January, after losing 87 lbs. in 7 months. Apparently the weight I lost, was also helping to keep the Hernias in check. (Ended up having 3 total, which were all taken care of while in surgery) Attached below is my chart that I have been updating since the beginning, after switching over to this WOE/WOL. - As you can see, there was indeed a shift right afterwards, and the thing was, it could have been much worse? I only say this since I actually went to the Hospital Fasting for a few days, and ended up having the surgery whilst Fasting, and ended up being 136 hrs. Fasted before eating my first food. (Though I was on IV’s for the first 3 or 4 days, and then had to eat what foods I could for the surgery that I had. And no, they were not Keto Friendly. But that wasn’t the issue and didn’t bother me. I had to eat to get my system functional, so I did, and didn’t let it bother me. (I know, like it’s been said above, easier to say then done for some) … But I actually got out of the Hospital after 6 days & immediately went back to what I was doing before-hand but still saw gains for the next couple weeks and it wasn’t until the third week or so I saw it start to roll back. Again, like mentioned above, apparently having surgery can indeed cause your body to do it’s own thing, and this is for your benefit overall in needing to heal properly. So as far as Surgeries go, let it do what it needs to, but if you’re still having issues after some time, yes you can look into what might be the cause. But believe me, my personal opinion, it won’t do you much good to let it get the best of you.

Though I spent my first 6 to 7 months researching all about Keto, and I mean every second I had from evenings, weekends, etc. I wanted to learn as much as I could about this new lifestyle, but afterward, I simply understood how a lot of things worked, but then just allowed myself to try and enjoy it for what it was. … For the record, I do not track Macros, I do not limit my meals, etc. I only keep carbs under 20g. But again, this is just me and how I like to do Keto, but see no issues with those who choose to do so.

But I can say, along with all the other things that could be attributing to your present issue, worrying and stressing out can do just as much, if not more, to hinder weight loss. This is more than apparent when I read so many dealing with just that issue. So if it’s at all possible, try not to let this get to you, because this can cause you even more issues if it’s not the main presently. Instead, maybe you can try some of the suggestions already provided above and see if any of those ideas work for you? I can tell you this, in all my time being Keto, I’ve always been a big advocate of changing things up. - This I believe can help tremendously and can be one of the best things one can do. By changing everything up, you keep your body guessing. This can be you meal times, amounts, types of foods, etc. (And for the record, I too tried giving up all Dairy for one month, since it is indeed said to help with weight loss and has even helped some that had stalled. - Carl, one of the two Keto dudes who own these forums confirmed this to me as well a while back when we spoke, and others have found this to be true as well.) But again, this is something one needs to commit and try for themselves, since we are all different and no one method will fix us all. … For me, I didn’t see much difference while I was Dairy free to be honest… but when I started to reincorporate it, I surely did. I think the elimination process was probably slower, so results were not as apparent. But as soon as it was re-introduced, I started seeing changes, so it does play a role for me so I have stepped back some from it overall and may even eliminate it again if needed.

Well, sorry for the long post, but I was trying to provide you with at least some data that might be helpful but understand this can be quite bothersome not understanding what may be happening. … Lastly I will say, a lot of meds out there are indeed fattening, and can cause some folks issues such as this, so I do try to not take anything myself, but like was recommended, I would definitely look into anything you are presently taking. If anything, to eliminate it from the equation & make sure it isn’t making matters worse.

Again, maybe try some of the advice provided above, try not to stress too much and yep, talk the folks here. As you see they are a great group of folks and you wouldn’t be the first person I’ve seen get the help they needed from these here forums, and not say directly from any one given Doctor. - Yes, it is very helpful to have a Doctor that understands and supports Keto, but there no one who can tell you how you feel, better than yourself. So maybe give yourself a break, try a few things & see how it goes? In the meantime, do some research and see if you can find the MD you’re looking for, but you can also ask questions here… chances are there are others who might have dealt with the same thing at one point or another and might be able to provide even more information? … Good luck :+1:
