Movie theater snacks

Super excited to go see guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 tonight but wondering about snack obviously I can’t have popcorn or pop. What do you sneak in to the movie theater to snack on during a movie

I bring bacon jerky since I can eat the bag and not be too worried about it. The problem with food in theaters for me is I mindlessly eat if it is not portion controlled. Drink wise is harder. I treat myself to coke zero every now and then but I mainly stick to water.

I actually avoided the movies for a couple of months after starting Keto. I loved eating popcorn while watching a movie, I love popcorn in general and it is one of the two items I lament giving up, the other is beer. I finally broke down and went to see a movie with my parents. I took a small bag of salted pecans to snack on, it worked pretty well. I also had the benefit of not taking a carb nap in the middle of the movie (which has happened in the past a number of times).

The small bag was key … if I took the whole can, I left it in the car, I would have eaten it all.

we pack bacon, I’m going to make pepperoni parm crackers too… we bring bottled water too… I know that movie theaters make their money on selling soda and popcorn, but if they do not have anything i can eat, i’m not going to worry about it… we’re going to see this tonight too…

If you gently toast some pecans with melted butter in a pan they come out tasting quite similar to buttered popcorn, at least to my taste buds.

Omega-6’s aside, Pork Rinds are a good option.

The last few movies I haven’t eaten anything. I have changed lots of old habits with this way of eating.

Thanks for all the ideas I ended up bringing water and purse bacon, macadamia nuts and pork rinds note my husband was with me no I didn’t eat it all at once. I’m slowly trying to get him to move over to the keto side.

Ya, in the long run you’ll probably be better off not snacking on anything during a movie. It’s pretty emblematic of “mindless” eating.

I freak people out all the time. My friends buy popcorn and drinks and candy…and I buy NOTHING. Then I tease them…as in “seriously…you can’t sit there for a couple of hours without food…are you going to shrivel and die? It’s only a couple of hours”…

I brought all of that stuff and only drank water and at the credits me and my hubby ate the purse bacon. It was great although next time I have to bring gum as he grinds his teeth.

this.

I was never a fan of movie theater popcorn, so not eating it is the norm for me. I also am not a big fan of going to the movies. Sitting there for two hours my mind starts racing about all the other things I could be doing. I “take one for the team” on occasion and go when my husband really wants to see something.

But yeah…it’s two hours. Consider it a short fast

I never used to eat at movies, but since keto I find the smell of popcorn makes me really crave something salty. I used to do roasted pumpkin seeds, but now I make a batch of sliced almonds, lightly toasted and tossed with butter and salt. Tastes just like popcorn!

I have a bit of an advantage because I am lucky enough to have a AMC dine in theater nearby. And… they have roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer! Crunchy outer leaves, salty with a hint of chili pepper. They are amazing. Then I get a Cobb salad or cheeseburger no bun, no fries.
However, this time Guardians of the Galaxy is a must do. Will probably do the dine in once with the boyfriend. Then next week I have a date with my sis who insists on the earliest cheap matinee,. So that is the one I am worried about. Bacon jerky sounds like the best deal, maybe those smoked turkey bites.
Popcorn is my number one favorite food in the world. When I was about 14 my family went away on vacation for a week and I was working my first paid job at the library. I made a pot of popcorn every night. Ate what was left the next morning for breakfast.
That was good week.

6 of us went to see Guardians last night, made 8 dozen pepperoni parmesan crisps… Super quick and easy, used a tiny muffin tin with 24 muffin spots… Pepperoni and half tablespoon grated Parmesan… Baked 425°f for like 6 minutes or till they look golden brown…

Made 2 dozen of these crisps that also had 4th teaspoon low carb marinara sauce and pinch shredded cheese each… Baked 425°f for like 8 minutes, you do need to let these cool to get them out… These are super delicious… I didn’t get any photos cause I made them cooled them and bagged them for the movies

I have always been a huge food person when it comes to the theater! I would go with my wife and we would split a large popcorn and soda, and i would then have an order of chicken tenders AND fried mozzarella sticks, SOOO GOOD! Now I havnt been to the theater in a few months but last time I did, it was with a water bottle and a pack of almonds with some salami and cheese! I think i may try to make chicken tenders with the 2 keto dude “breadcrumbs” and bring those next time as an ode to the old me! Love all the other ideas in this thread as well, will be taking note of a feew for sure

I love that you call it “purse bacon” :joy::joy::rofl:

(karen) #18

:grinning: I was thinking the same.

I’ve been worrying about the movies a bit. We always go to Roadhouse - a recliner theatre with wait service. We signed up for the abysmal bonus of free unlimited caramel popcorn, which is brought to us in large bowls, as much as we want. OMG, a keto nightmare. They do serve other things but it’s mostly bar food and beer. Liking the idea of purse snacks! In this environment it will be doubly easy to eat my own food unnoticed.

I get the feeling your theatre is classy lol makes the galaxy cinema I go to sound like a gas station lol

We never go anywhere else. I make him go on Tuesdays, when the movies are $6, but we always wind up spending $30 on food, even with the free popcorn. Our christmas gifts basically amount to a pile of Roadhouse gift certificates. Some lifestyle changes coming, keto should save me a few bucks at least! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
