Keto not working?

#22

The weight loss has started again. Albeit slow. 1 KG in the last few days, but it’s going in the right direction.

#23

If that was the actual speed, I would call it super quick…
Whatever it will be on average, great it has started again  There is no problem with even truly slow fat-loss. You aren’t very heavy, you can reach your goals quickly enough with a slower pace if you ask me… And I don’t say this because my speed is zero gram per year since many years (except when it went up for reasons). Even before my 12+ years stalling, I was very pleased with a slow steady fat-loss (it happened out of keto). Some of us can’t possibly lose fat quickly, you probably have much better chances!

Good luck and keep us informed if you don’t mind, I like success stories and experiences in general!

Yep, I’ll keep you all posted on the progress.

8kg in 2 weeks is great! Plateaus are normal — your body’s adjusting. Stay consistent and the weight will keep dropping

(Mary Jones) #26

Honestly, at the beginning of the diet, I wasn’t sure if I should even start, but now I’m very happy with the result.

(Mal Thornton) #27

Hi all. Newby here again  Happy & safe Sunday to you all. I know I can research all about Keto on line. But I’d rather get my info from the horse’s mouth so to speak. A little more about my progress.
I “think” I’m doing all the correct things but still a little disappointed with results so far. Sticking strictly to Keto. One meal a day. Always between 6 & 7 PM. To be more precise 6 & 6:30. Drinking plenty of water & also electrolite.
So, how long does a plateau usually last ? I understand results aren’t constant. But no drop at all in the last 9 days. :frowning: After the original “BIG” drop I was hoping for, say, 1KG a week. Is that expecting too much ? Maybe I’m just looking for encouragement. Welcome any, all comments & suggestions. Thanks. Mal.

Did you put on weight? Most people on a standard diet are getting fatter! How is your HbA1C? How about other health markers?
If you’ve had 60 years of poor nutrition it won’t be fixed in a week or two.
Also eat when hungry, drink when thirsty etc.

(Cathy) #29

There is no way to predict how long a plateau will last. I liked to think of them as ‘practice’ for when I was in maintenance mode.

Your body is adjusting. Lots of things aside from weight loss are happening. Maybe concentrate on how you feel which should be, a lot better.

(Joey) #30

More important, how are you feeling? Any noteworthy changes?
And even if it’s all in your head, your head is a real place.
(I’ll take a placebo effect any day)

Hi all. Appreciate your comments. Update. Sticking strictly to Keto, OMAD. Still NO weight loss over past 10 or so days. My research indicates I might not be consuming enough calories. After my evening Keto meal I feel FULL. Sometimes try a little cheese just to consume a few more calories. Bowel movements irregular. Often no bowel movement for 4 days ? Am taking laxitive. Laxative doesn’t seem to have much effect. On the positive side. My mental health is great ! Prior to starting Keto I was suffering with some negativity & lack of motivation. Poor sleep. Now wake refreshed much earlier than previously. Attack the day ! But have to say, not even a KG weight loss is starting to P**s me off ! Still happy to answer any, all questions. Cheers… Mal.

(Mal Thornton) #32

No, haven’t put on any weight since starting Keto. BIG initial loss but no loss for about 10 or so days. Never poor nutrition. Mainly eating excess & a few too many beers.

(Mal Thornton) #33

Feeling great. Psychologically BIG improvement since starting Keto. Much more motivated. Sleeping better.

Thats a sure sign of good things happening. The brain loves ketones

If you are fine, it shouldn’t be a problem., You eat little and probably food you mostly use up so there is little waste and many people apparently get a lower frequency then (while some others just produce super tiny amounts every day).

It’s great you feel better, it’s something you can be happy with. Patience and you will see what happens in the future. Maybe you can track to see how little you eat… Not like it’s easy to figure out how much you need if you never had the info… But still. Maybe it’s clearly too little food and in that case, no matter your fat-loss pace, eat more. It’s super easy to drink a ton of calories in no time if you ask me. Or something creamy. I could eat a lot of cream or butter for sure. But my choice is some fatty pork (811 kcal/100g according to the label. super easy to eat as it’s soft and irresistible).
But of course, if you can’t eat enough at once, eat twice. Maybe just a little time in-between.
Do you eat enough protein and other nutrients?

(Bob M) #36

4 days means I ate something like too many salads. If I eat fewer to no vegetables, it’s at least daily if not multiple times per day for me. The exact opposite of what we’ve been told.

And for me, dairy doesn’t affect this. But I think I’m dairy immune, meaning I don’t have many or any issues with dairy.

(Mal Thornton) #37

Hi. Thanks for your message. I’m trying to eat as many calories as I can in my OMAD. Every second night it’s a broccoli, cauliflower & zucchini smoothy. Unsweetened almond milk. Peanut butter. Full small avocado. Good splash of coconut oil. Ground flax & chia seeds. Some psyllium husk. Oh, and a scoop of protein powder. After I have that I’m FULL ! Another night will be a BIG pork chop cooked on coconut oil & butter & 3 eggs. Desert is a reasonably large chunk of cheese. Again, after that I’m FULL. Beside coupious amounts of lemon water throughout the day the only other thing I drink is a large black coffee in the morning with Stevis sweetener. I’ve tried the bullet coffee but it’s not for me. Physically I feel fine. No hunger. No tiredness. Mentally feel better than ever. As always, welcome all comments & suggestions. Cheers… Mal.

Mal for me that would be a lot of fibre … you might be OK with that? I sure wouldn’t

#39

Thanks Peter. What’s the downside to too much fibre ? still learning.

#40

Depends on the person. My body doesn’t care, I am fine anywhere between zero and high fiber but it’s not true for everyone. If you feel fine, it should be okay for you. I doubt you can eat so much fiber in a single not huge meal anyway and you don’t even have fiber meals every day… The pork chop and egg one is close to my ideal OMAD  No wonder you get full, red meat has that effect on me too if the amount is right. Egg and dairy is just for variety, I couldn’t eat only meat, some people can.
But the other meal… Where is the protein? Most people need way more than that.

(Peter - Don't Fear the Fat ) #41

Many people are fine with fibre. Because it contains plenty of undigested matter some people can have digestive issues like constipation.
Also it has a potential to block the good nutrients.
Mainstream will stay fibre is essential but we know that’s not true. In my case it’s very damaging, very inflammatory.
