How do you feel about trying a fast? To break through plateau. Thoughts?

My friend and ex-co-worker, saw him this past summer, and again tonight - company Holiday party. Type 2 Diabetic, had his left lower leg amputated an inch below the left knee. He’s adjusting to it and his prosthesis.

He’s so firmly in the course/whirlpool of increasing oral medication then insulin injections then increased dosages/different formulations. I talked with him a bit about how it is only having one leg to walk on, and then asked him point blank had he heard about ketogenic eating.

“No, what is it?” I told him it’s essentially limiting your carbohydrates to 20 grams or less per day, and eating as much fat as you want, and protein doesn’t change much. I said that I knew of MANY people who not only got off insulin but also were able to stop oral medications and even reverse the status of “diabetic” as a whole.

I think the drastic limitation of carbohydrates turned him mostly off - we kept talking, but his heart was not in it. He said, “We’ll see how it goes…” As far as I can tell, this is maintaining his present course, eating carbs and injecting insulin to make up for it, mostly…

That’s. Just. Sad. Even if you beat some people over the head it doesn’t do any good. We all have to live our own lives and suffer the consequences of our choices. :disappointed:
