Is high fat required?

Hello forum and Merry Christmas.

I have always found enough fat very important for my overall feel in keto.( Always in my case is 20 years of Keto/Atkins -whatever Low Carb mix it has been. Sometimes a bit on and off. )

Right now I`m on a good start again, and once again very low (5-15 g) carbs. First, very low carbs let hunger stay away without a ton of daily calories and second, I like the strong ketosis feel. I have tried to up my carbs numerous times over the years, not happening. I start to get cravings at around 30 grams and end up eating “just one potato” etc etc…

My reason for keto is general well being. BP already went down in a few weeks, steady blood sugar, Im sharp all day, sleep well... I dont want diabetes either. I restrict calories a little, feels right for now.

I´d also like to get rid of a few kilos,no hurry though. As long as I fit in my motorcycle leathers at 61 years old in April.

Sounds like a good goal.

There can be too much fat but usually it´s very hard to actually overeat fat. If you are restricting calories, then you need to watch a bit. Usually unnecessary amounts of protein comes first.

Many do not restrict calories and still lose weight.

Having said that: we had ham today, straight from the oven. Because all modern ham is pretty lean in fat, i took several sips of olive oil and had butter in my coffee during the day.

And thanks for the welcome!

Sipping olive oil? Each to his own, I guess. I think I’d just butter the ham slices and be done with it! :stuck_out_tongue:

Olive oil is good stuff and it´s easy to add dietary fat that way. I often start my day with a sip or two.

But yeah, I`m going to make a nice gravy using the ham fat, butter and cream today!
