I’ve had insomnia as long as I can remember. I’ve taken melatonin, magnesium, Unisom, Benadryl, plus all kinds of herbs. Everything stopped working and I finally had to go on Lunesta, though I didn’t want to. It worked for several months and started to not work as well, plus I wanted to go off of it for other reasons. I did acupuncture for a few months and was able to stop taking Lunesta. I still take half a Unisom sleep tab (NOT regular Unisom) and 1 mg melatonin every night but that does the trick for me most of the time. The acupuncture was pretty effective in managing anxiety as well.

I’m like a kid with a new toy - decent sleep.
Can’t help talking about it, so here goes:

I had been taking Magnesium supplements for years, but the insomnia just kept worsening.

Gave up even decaff tea and coffee. Tiny amounts of 70% choc, mornings only…
Still dreadful sleep.
Blue light.
Sleep hygiene. Clear room. Gentle alarm. Regular bedtime…
yada yada.
All v tiresome.

then I started using Magnesium Oil and the problem disappeared. Bliss.
I’m now averaging 7hrs sleep a night - providing I go to bed early enough.
Can’t tell you what a relief it is.
(although caffiene in any form still mucks things up)

Turns out that I may have been taking the Magnesium supplements, but I wasn’t absorbing them properly. So the Oil is better for me because it is absorbed through the skin, rather than in the digestive tract.

Sorry to go on about it. But I just can’t stop telling people.
I wonder how many others there are out there with the same problem?

I don’t remember why I didn’t mention this in any of my earlier posts, but a mug of warm milk does the trick for me, if I can’t get to sleep. For some reason, it seems even to counteract caffeine drunk too late in the evening.

Thanks much!

I’ve been using Magnesium Lotion this week, and I think it’s helping. I apply a generous amount to the bottoms of my feet & my legs, and some on my arms. I may try the oil instead, as the lotion is very thick. How does the oil feel? is it light & absorbant, or thick?

I think it depends on how much you use, really.
The brand I bought says that 6 sprays gives 100Magnesium units. I think that is about 25% of my RDA.

That amount over my legs wouldn’t be all that ‘oily’. But i use 30+ sprays on arms and legs, then sleep in it (i reckon I am pretty severely deficient and trying to rectify a long term deficiency). That really does feel oily! But i would rather have oily skin than lie awake all night.
