It’s definitely worth experimenting, even trying things you don’t expect to work such as increasing carbohydrates. If you are paying attention you ought to notice when something is detrimental before much harm occurs and in the process you’ll gain valuable insights and confidence in your ability to figure things out. Keep making small adjustments and eventually you’ll find things that are working better for you and along the way you’ll develop a better sense of what is really problematic. Which is important because you don’t want to spend too much of your effort on things that aren’t really important.
For myself other factors have been as important as diet. Improving sleep, lowering stress, pursuing hobbies that take my mind off of food, etc. One of the best things for me has been that as I started making modest gains my wife joined me in the effort. We settled into a new routine of taking our dog for a long walk immediately after dinner. Our dog loves it so much she becomes quite impatient to go out which prompts us to finish our plates and get going without going back for 2nds or 3rds like I otherwise was inclined to do. I find that I can get up to go for the walk while still desiring more food but once we get moving and talking I rapidly forget that I was hungry. We’ve adopted an IF routine and I stopped eating any after dinner snacks. If I get hungry later I’ll have a cup of tea or find something else physical to do that continues to distract me from thinking about food. And when all else fails I’ll take a hot bath and go to bed early.
And with all that further fat loss for me is still slow and inconsistent. Recent poor weather has reduced our walks and I’ve not made much if any progress this past month. But it has stopped being a primary focus and I’m not stressed about it either. I’m fairly confident going forward that a low effort keto will continue to be sufficient for me to maintain weight and short periods of more intense focus on fat loss with some fasting is all I need to slowly make progress towards my goal.
