Give them out for Halloween

Awesome thread, people!!! I agree with Mike, keep something around for just those times, but just having chocolate nibs around and eating them with coconut butter, is like a bounty bar, BUT FAR less sweet. Sugar is highly addictive, we all know this! There is a great book by Dr. Vera Tarman called Food Junkies. Dr. Tarman is the medical director for the Renascent Treatment Centre, in Whitby, ON, Canada. They have opened up their addiction treatment centre for those with food addictions. It is NOT a treatment centre for eating disorders, but one could argue sugar addiction is an eating disorder. Check out the book, I personally could relate to a lot of some of the cases she highlighted and the thought processes. Keep calm and keto on, folks!!

I used an online macro calculator online a couple months ago. It just so happened to be iifym (which I’d never previously heard of) and from that moment I continued getting emails from him until this morning, when I unsubscribed. They were for the most part interesting reads, if not just humorous. His email this morning gave his stance on sugar, saying it’s not the devil. For me, it is the devil, hands down.
Sugar has caused me more problems than I can name and I will never go back. It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve had sugar. When I first started back on Keto a couple months ago, and up until 2 weeks ago, I had trouble with sweeteners making me crave more and more. I would say I finally became fat adapted last week, because all that is gone. I can now go hours (almost a day) without eating, and if I eat a little something with sweetener in it, I’m fine. Pre-Keto and even before last week, I could only go a couple of hours without eating, so this is pretty crazy for me, but very cool!!

His email:
Today I want to talk to you about one of my all time favorite topics: nutrition myths!

If you’ve been hanging around IIFYM, you’ve probably heard me sharing my very strong feelings about sugar at least once.

Because guess what… sugar is not the devil!

People villainize sugar, especially when you’re trying to lose fat. And, to be honest, the decision not to eat sugar can be a smart choice for you, based on how your body reacts to it and your ability to control your portions.

But sugar by itself isn’t bad. It’s just something that is really easy to overindulge in, and has a tendency to be a part of foods that carry a heavy macro load (especially in terms of carbs and fat) that can put you over your macros really easily and leave you feeling hungry.

As long as you track it and understand how much you’re eating, sugar is just sugar.

And this is just one of many, many nutrition myths that are out there.

This is just how I feel. We had a family birthday recently and instead of cake I made some chocolate fat bombs and realised things like that will male keto long term sustainable for me.

Popcorn is my biggest vice. I have to purposely avoid even walking past it. :anguished:

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #108

My roommate has been making popcorn lately. (She was going to do keto, but only lasted a week.) she totally respects my doing keto, but she also deserves to eat whatever she wants without me judging. Anyways, she made popcorn, which was my biggest sacrifice. I ate a couple pieces. Eh, I can live without it. That was a nice surprise. It helps it was cold, haha! but I’ll keep that as my judgment and not push it by trying hot.

There! All fixed!

when i started keto, i cleaned out the kitchen of all sugars and carbs.
That has saved me so many times from a slip, as when i want that stuff , its usually the weeee hours of the nite, to late to go out.
But i have over eaten some dark dark chocolate, i m not crazy about it, so i only go so far!
We all slip!ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†

I’ve tested my blood sugar with home-popped popcorn with butter, coconut oil, and there was nary a budge. Haven’t tested the store-bought kind, though, and I’d be suspicious of the oils they use.

I have to say that if you have at all an addictive personality, sugar IS the devil. I’ve been low carb/keto for five years and will overeat sugar for things I like (such as ice cream), every time. (85%+ chocolate isn’t bad, but I think it tastes bad, so I don’t want to eat more of it.) Every single time. Which is why I avoid sugar or things that are sweet-tasting, to the extent I can.

Captain Kirk here… I was a captain in the Army, and when I go to the veterans center, they still call me that. My (now ex) husband and I started a LLC and called it ā€œKirk Enterprisesā€!

(Kirk Wolak) #113

I am up to 92% dark chocolate. 85% is too sweet, and I can eat too much of it.

I started with shards of Bakers Chocolate.
Where do you get that from?

Trader Joe’s. 269 a bar

Thank you for sharing! I ate popcorn last night and I am now up 1.2 lbs after coming off of a 24 hour fast. I know it’s water weight. I don’t feel as miserable as I thought I would, but I definitely feel swollen. I will drink lots of water and get myself back on track!

I sprinkled powdered cheese on my pork rinds.

I NEVER NEED To eat popcorn again!

That was the best. To try it, I would buy a box of MacN Cheese and use the package on the pork rinds.
If you really like it, Amazon sells a 1lb container of the powdered cheese!
And powdered PB works too!!!
