I’m tired of the attention I get for losing weight

Yeah, I got some of that when I saw a relative a week ago. I was expecting to get praise and admiration, but instead I got comments like you mentioned in the second paragraph. I was in a good mood that day… until I got lectured for becoming healthy (by an overweight person no less). Oh well.

People are weird about weight, to state the obvious. When I gained a ton of weight, was super unhappy, knees started to go, was tired all the time, missed work, no one said a thing. Not even a doctor said, hey, what are you eating? time to clean up the diet and get healthy. Then when I did that for myself, and got healthy, then people had to comment, worried about my health?? People have some odd ideas about health and what it looks like.

What I did was send out a email at work to all employees.

It went something like this.

I have had many people ask me what my secret was to losing weight and keeping it off. Then I explained briefly how I tried a few things and would gain it back in spades. Then I read wheat belly, stopped eating wheat and experimented with fasting. Next I jumped on the Ketogenic lifestyle bandwagon and read the Obesity Code. So I tried to explain the science of it the best I could in the email in a brief format. I don’t know if anyone tried it, or it helped anyone but it really got the comments down. Because I told them all about it. LoL.

Try a Mission Belt. I bought one of these a few years back after seeing it on Shark Tank (and I now have two). They are truly a better belt design. No holes. And you can easily snip off the end of the belt to make it smaller as you lose weight. I’ve done this a number of times over the last year and a half. I’ve given these out as presents to my son, father and father-in-law. All really like them.

PS: I have absolutely financial interest in the Mission Belt company. I just love the belts.

The Mission-style belt is a godsend.

I have had to face that too. It has been two years since I reached my goal weight and most of the comments now are negative. I was out of town taking care of a sick Uncle for a couple of months and now everyone says, the stress is making you too thin you need to eat more (I am eating exactly the same and haven’t lost weight). If I wear something that I think looks fantastic, people will always point out how skinny I am and their tone of voice is that it is not in a good way. I even enjoy getting my picture taken now (I used to hate it and would avoid it at all cost). It seems my weight is always the first topic of conversation. It makes me want to wear things that are not flattering to hide. According to my Dr. I have never been healthier. It has become really annoying.

I walked into a large gathering at my sister in law’s house once, and her mother (who’s very loud) exclaimed, “Oh my God! How much weight have you lost?!” It suddenly got quiet and everyone turned and looked. I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me.

Those of us who are more private people tend to be uncomfortable being in the spotlight. I think most folks are well meaning, so I hold onto that. They don’t mean to make you feel self conscious. But many lack the couth to express it in a way that let’s us receive the compliment graciously and move on.

I’d file it under the category of “good problems to have.”

I see your point!

There’s always the compliment that sounds like an insult. My favorite is this one…

“WOW, you have lost a TON of weight”

Why can’t people just say… hey you look good and be done with that…

I did keto four years ago. “Don’t lose anymore weight” Like there was something wrong with me. Cant wait to see what the comments are this time around.

I don’t have that problem. I’ve lost over 80lbs since February and only one person (out side of the few people that knew I was working on it) mentioned something so far. Still over 400 lbs so I’m still pretty fat.

Complements are nice but that’s not why I’m doing this so it doesn’t bother me.
