I been sick for a long time and need some advise

Don’t waste your time with elimination diets, TEST! It’s unlikely you’re actually intolerant to a huge list of foods, way more likely your gut is screwed and one thing triggers the next. The days of elimination diets are outdated, we have labs for that now. A foods sensitivities test will show you immune responses to food, and how severe they are, and a stool/biome test will show you what your digestive system is having issues with. I’ve brought back my gut from the brinks of hell and now have no real issues vs a couple of years ago when it was terrible, things that flagged bad on my food sensitivities don’t any more and my bloating is gone unless I eat stuff I know my body doesn’t like.

You can do a food sensitivities test at home and send to the lab, same for a stool testing. You can buy both of them with HSA/FSA money and have a LOT of answers right up front and save yourself a lot of hassle and wasted time.

Also, don’t play around with chronic constipation, when I ate standard Keto I did just that for 4yrs, I believed the I didn’t need fiber thing, and now have some permanent damage thanks to that which I wouldn’t have seen except my doc got pissed and ordered me a colonoscopy. Put fiber back in and within days I was going normally again.

There’s a lot of stuff you can do to start the repair process, depending on what you find out. For brain energy there’s also a ton, really depends on you and what you’re into doing.

I take magnesium carbonate powder in water every night, without fail.
To start, you can take enough to clear you out. although if impacted, there will be some cramps… but worth it to me to get totally cleaned out.
After that, I found my maintenance dose to simply keep my stools soft, so no straining or pain. I have diverticulitis so I can’t afford to be backed up or straining.
This has changed my world.

A side benefit is it stops the muscle cramps I used to get at night plus aids sleep. Win win win.

Magnesium is necessary for me with advanced osteoporosis because I have to supplement my calcium. I started supplementing with magnesium (Drs Best chelated, and Magnesium L-Threonate,) 2-1/2 years ago, and in all that time I have been constipated only one single day. Prior to starting magnesium, I was easily constipated a few times each month.

I also have regularly used electrolytes and mct oil each day during these same 2-1/2 years. I think the combination of all these things has kept my stools softer and easy to pass regardless of what food I eat, and I’m thankful for that.

(Harriet) #25

I was thinking something similar, but either Lyme disease or chronic fatigue syndrome.

Monocytes are normally measured on a CBC, I don’t see that on your results. Mononucleosis would be indicated by elevated monocytes.

Like Virginia I suspect you have some leaky gut. However, you may well have something else going on - hopefully not some disease. The vegetables causing this inflammation is what makes me suspect leaky gut. Lectins and so forth from legumes do cause these types of symptoms in those that have leaky gut. My wife took an antibiotic for years to address a cough she could not get rid of, and I suspect that caused her many long term problems from leaky gut. This last year she did the GAPS diet, and I do believe it helped her, as now she has not been complaining of all the inflammation she was having.

If your gut has been compromised from the SAD and/or antibiotics, it will take some time to heal it. My first time addressing this issue took me over a year to start feeling normal again. This last time, I have learned more to add to my arsenal, and it didn’t take so long. Here is what I did:

I used bacteriophages to clear out some bad guys. You can get it here: https://www.lifeextension.com/vitamins-supplements/item02125/florassist-gi-with-phage-technology?gad_source=5&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4M3r7MzqhgMVuh2tBh1CtQuiEAQYASABEgIKovD_BwE
When I used this, I had lots of extra gas for a few days, which I attributed to it killing off some bad guy colonies. However, it will not kill off H. pylori. Next follow with a probiotic with lots of L. reuteri, which you can order separately, but this one has lots: https://www.swansonvitamins.com/p/swanson-ultra-femflora-feminine-probiotic-formula-60-caps
L. reuteri and gasseri are some of the few probiotics which will colonize the upper intestinal tract. Reuteri apparently makes some chemicals which kill off H. pylori. So, this is a way to suppress pylori without using antibiotics, which will also kill off good colonies allowing bad guys which survive in their biofilms to spread.

I also supplemented with a probiotic which had bacillus subtilis - the idea being to produce my own vitamin K2.Years ago, I would start with a fiber “drink”(turned into a gel) every time I became irregular, but now I realize I was not only moving out unwanted stuff, but also feeding probiotics with all the fiber.

The probiotics will help the intestines rebuild the mucin layer that is supposed to be in the gut. The fiber will help feed the probiotics which do this. Until there is a healthy mucin layer, plants foods with lectins such as legumes(you mentioned lentils), would be expected to cause irritation. This last round I did not use a supplemental fiber, but did this after my appendectomy 35 years ago. I used ground psyllium husks. I suggest Yerba Prima brand.

Your high uric acid can be caused by fructose or purine from red meat and fish. Being carni may be your driver here. Uric acid is also created as a waste product in the ATP energy cycle, and may point to inefficiencies here. It also indicates you may have some cardiovascular issues such as HBP. Until you get this to drop, I would stay away from fruits for fiber.

So inflamed as hell huh?

More water man!

(Alec) #30

OK, that’s real constipation. So, you are dead right that you can’t stay on the constipation drugs for long… you need to get off them. Fat up, salt up, magnesium citrate… all good directions. I personally would not introduce fibre, but it’s up to you on which advice feels right for you.

That’s what you get in these forums: a lot of experience, but that experience is often different! So you have to pick and choose.

#31

That’s why I love it here. And even if the replies can’t really help, I love having people who allow me to bounce things off of them. Just being able to share what’s happening with my diet or health means a lot. It’s a bonus if any replies help! But it’s not a deal breaker if they don’t.

 It’s a Keto family

I only showed out of range results, Monocytes is in range, is that mean It’s unlikely I have Mononucleosis?

(Harriet) #33

You’d need a Monospot test to 100% rule it out.

If your lymph nodes are swollen there’s an infection. Withdrawal from SSRIs wouldn’t cause that.

Don’t stress about lab numbers that are a point or even two out of range, that is normal variation. What bloodwork looks for is first, trends. Those trends establish what’s normal for you. Then if something is wildly out of range it would raise alarm bells.

What kind of physician are you seeing that ordered your bloodwork and what did they think of your results?

(Alec) #34

Rick
I am no expert on non-cholesterol test results, but the one that stood out for me when I scanned through was your iron level… that does look pretty low. Is that something you are trying to fix?

Take care!
A

If you are having so much trouble with bone broth, you might want to look into histamine intolerance.
Bone broth is considered a high histamine food.

I will add that from your initial post, carnivore did seem to be helping. While two months helped your symptoms improve, it was not long enough to really provide the healing your body obviously needs. I think you need to give it more time before introducing other foods. Also, like mentioned by others, taking a magnesium supplement will definitely help with the constipation trouble.

Otherwise, I think you have gotten some wonderful responses from the other forum members. I hope you figure out what is going on.

(Edith) #36

What a story! Thank you for sharing!

What do your doctor(s) say?

Several years later, it is extremely doubtful. There is something called ADS (Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome). The scientific date is sparse, but about 1% or less can see the symptoms lasting more than 3 years. How long were you on them and how long was the withdrawl period?
Has your primary doctor sent you to any specialists? I suspect something else is going on here. Diet may help give some relief. Again, have your doctor(s) run complete blood work. Start here first. I am assuming you no longer need the SSRIs.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #38

Personally, I don’t doubt it. I once tapered off improperly and had symptoms of withdrawal for about five years.

#39

That is very scary. I would have thought that there would be a protocol that would minimize the withdrawl effects. I am sure your doctor said it was all in your head? Glad to hear you overcame the withdrawl.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #40

Ha ha! All in my head, indeed.

There is indeed a withdrawal protocol that minimises the effects and leaves you just fine, over time. However, the effects last quite a long time if one does not implement the protocol correctly, which was my problem. This is essentially a minor, though annoying, problem with an SSRI, but if one does not properly and safely taper off more-powerful psycho-active drugs, the effects can be serious, even deadly.

@rickk Exercise Intolerance was one of my secondary symptoms.

You should check out NwJ (Nutrition With Judy, Judy Cho) on her CIRS rabbit hole.

She helped get me diagnosed (she recommended the labs), and sure enough I tested positive. One of the simplest tests you can do is at SurvivingMold.com and take their VCS Test. It’s a vision test (developed to detect brain inflammation in PILOTS as early as possible). I failed it pretty obviously. And as I healed, you can see my vision numbers improve.

Anyways, not all inflammation is from diet!

While going carnivore usually helps, you regress once you normalize against the diet. The underlying issues just become primary. High BP and Fatigue.

Many have found that Spike Protein exposure can be their “Triggering” event.
And there is a study by Dr. Shoemaker showing a massive overlap of CIRS and Long-Covid. (eg, testing Long-Covid people for the CIRS Genes is almost guaranteed to produce a positive result).

As a personal note. I am unvaccinated. But I got CIRS twice. The first time was a 24hr bug. No big deal, a bit sore day 2. The second time I got it, it was a 10 day UGLY EVENT. I moved a vacation because of it, because even after the 10 days, my energy was too low to do anything. THIS is when I got diagnosed. Covid is now seen as a triggering event for many with CIRS.

It can be a rabbit hole. But CIRS messes with your energy metabolism and forces you into burning glucose. In my case, producing lactic acidosis as I am mostly carnivore. Hypo-Metabolism. it sucks. But it explains the glucose spikes when I eat a heavy protein meal.

Please note. I am not 100% healed from CIRS and was re-exposed recently.
BUT, while I was healing (and remediating some mold we found in the house).
I noticed how things can change. After a while on the binders, and being in a good environment. Suddenly, those glucose spikes stopped (same meals, different results). Because my body was not fighting off some mold exposure or spike protein damage.

It’s simply not always the diet!
