How Many Calories Should I Eat On A Keto OMAD?

Hello everyone!

I know these types of discussions aren’t new here so ho hopefully I won’t be too annoying and get some help.

I started to learn about the ketogenic diet, specifically about OMAD.

I want to eat one meal a day but something is not clear to me so I’m going to ask some questions.

How many calories should I eat on OMAD? Which is better: 1200, 1800, or 2100 calories? Dr. Berg is recommending 1200 calories a day (for those people who eat one meal a day) but that seems very few calories to me and I don’t want to lose weight. I’m 5’7 feet tall and I’m 143 pounds.

How many grams of protein should I eat on OMAD? Is 85 grams of protein too much? Should I do 60 grams of protein a day? And what means 85 grams of protein in grams of meat when it comes to beef?

How many grams of fat should I eat on OMAD? Let’s say I’m doing Kerrygold butter as a source of fat.

How many grams of vegetables should I eat on OMAD? I know the answer to this question. It’s about 4-6 cups of vegetables; 7-10 cups of salad. Not eating more than 20 grams of net carbs.

Thanks!

I would not advise counting calories at all. Eat less than 20g total carbs and eat until you are no longer hungry. Base your one meal on real food prepared from basic raw ingredients and don’t forget to drink water with a bit of sea salt added during the fasting period each day.

Good luck with your keto journey.

You keep posting pretty much the same question, complaining you feel bad on OMAD, how much to eat on OMAD, low energy on OMAD, why are you so fixated on OMAD? You’re just starting KETO, right? OMAD might be better if you’re fully fat adapted in a couple of months. Give your body a break and ease up on the strict schedule routine of OMAD for a while. All your posts have happened in like one day, are you reading the replies?

Apparently OMAD isn’t working for you. Why don’t you try that a bit later in your keto journey, OMAD isn’t a great fit for everyone for various reasons. Personally I find it difficult to eat a sufficient amount of food for a day in one sitting so I have tried a couple of days and went back to TMAD, and I have been KETO for almost a year. I am still loosing weight and getting healthier eating TMAD 16/8 or 18/6.

That would depend on your metabolism, nothing else. You need to figure out what you need.

I’d eat 1g per lb of body mass, not LBM, actual weight.

There is no amount to hit, just keep your fat up and you should have more of a source than butter.

Well, you know the answer so there you go.

Make sure your eating what your body needs during your one meal. I lost muscle and slowed my metabolism between the IF and OMAD. It backfires for a lot of people. Keep an eye on everything. Pick a goal, is it weight loss, fat loss, muscle gain? Keto is no different than any other way of eating. It changes depending on your goal.

I agree with @David_Stilley

People have been giving you great advice, please read it =). I also think that you should maybe try doing atleast 2 or even 3 meals for a few weeks, until your body adjusts to Keto and you get into Ketosis. You don’t need to jump right into OMAD directly when beginning Keto. Most people start it out at 3 meals, then reduce to 2, and over time go to OMAD and the fasting. It is a big adjustment on your body to begin with (a positive one for sure!) but let your body regulate, and don’t expect miracles. You will get results and feel great, but it is a process, it doesn’t happen over night =).

Thank you for your answer.

Hi David.

I’ve been eating one meal a day for about 3 months now.

I’m used to it.

I read a lot about this diet.

That’s actually not necessary to eat that much in the veggie department. I don’t even eat that much. I eat maybe 1-2 cups a day, but certainly not nearly that much. 10 cups of salad is a HUGE amount. And even veggies will add up in the carb department eventually.

@KetoCancerMom He’s been tainted with Dr. Berg’s 7-10 cups of green leafy vegetables.

Ovidiu, you may have done a lot of reading and viewing YouTube for information, but it’s amazing how much conflicting advice and plain old wrong on the internet there is concerning keto.

Obviously it’s not helping you sort out what and how much to eat. If you try to eat anywhere near that amount of vegetables you may not eat enough meat and fat at the same sitting to get you through OMAD. Which even though you’ve been doing it for 3 months, don’t seem to have a workable approach yet. You will have to figure this out, use the tracking app and learn to choose appropriately if you wish to stay OMAD, you have your personal experience to draw off of with that much time spent and much more experience with fasting than I do.

I am 5’2" and weigh 116lbs.

I eat between 1600 and 2200 calories as OMAD. I do get a majority of my fat from drinking heavy cream. The few veggies I eat are cooked in butter (for fat), but they are a small party of the meal. Fatty meat is best! Add in a few veggies if desired. :slightly_smiling_face:
