How do I not just scream at all my clearly unhealthy friends?

I get how you feel about frustrating parents. My dad had a heart attack over a decade ago, and experienced frequent angina… I weedled and discussed and suggested keto over and over and over. Finally I resorted to me and mom ganging up on him (mom is also keto) and saying we were worried about his health, and I bribed him. 6 months on keto, and he gets money. No cheating allowed, no beer, no bread, full on keto.
3 months in and he started losing weight again… his angina is gone… less hungry. I don’t know if he’ll continue past the six months but now he’s had a taste of what keto can do and can’t refute that it works.

His dad and mom also went paleo, so reverting back to his sugar and bread fueled existence would cause his dad to be disappointed I’m sure. Difficult for anyone to face, I’m sure.

You can lead a horse to water, and bribe him to drink, but it’s still on the horse on whether he’ll stick around.

I have similar problems but hey we can’t change everyone. That’s what my mentor said. Fat people choose to be fat. I have friends that just love the sugar and carbs.

I am reading ‘The Cholesterol Myths: Exposing The Fallacy that Saturated Fat and Cholesterol Cause’ by Uffe Ravnskov

It is very sciency, but very well written. I am glad to have this book in my kindle library now. It is chock full of scientific data, research and he shows how “scientists” manipulate the results of trials to fit their paid bias or theory.

In the grocery store I see big people with cases of sugar-filled soft drinks, candy, cookies, cake mixes, pasta, white bread, macaroni, etc. I cringe.

People probably looked that way at me not long ago, sitting in bars drinking pitchers of Margaritas, eating enormous burritos, etc.

TY for the recommendation. I’ll look into it.

I agree that you can’t change anyone, but I’m not so sure about fat people choosing to be fat. I used to think that way for the majority of my life but once I had my perfect storm, I beg to differ on that point. I believe that it’s more of an addiction coupled with metabolic disfunction. No one really wants to be fat if given the choice, and I don’t care what they say. I know I sure as hell didn’t! And I can say this as a former morbidly obese person, I was fucking miserable no matter how much “self-love” and “embracing” that I tried. I believe everyone has to either come to terms with their health…or not. That is the choice. I look at all of my friends that love their carbs and hope they aren’t brought to their knees with a diagnosis of diabetes and made to change their diet, but rather, come to their good senses and have the strength and desire to make a proactive change instead. I don’t preach to them or even say much about my “diet” because this is how they think of my WOE even though I’ve been at lo-carb for over 6yrs! lol I just try to lead by example. If they ask, I’ll talk to them, if not so be it. Life is short and time is precious.

Yes that’s true, most of my overweight friends that struggle with weight have a metabolic problem. They eat the same food as every skinny person there but they’re body doesn’t cope with the same diet as everyone else. I think the government should do a better job for promoting a healthier choice for everyone or maybe have the types of foods everyone should eat depending on body type.

@ketocowboy, I believe it is still .99¢ on kindle.

Some of the people closest to me would benefit so much on this woe. But my co-worker won me over by example and I’ll do the same… plus tossing a few great articles out there on my fb wall.

As sort of an update to this, I have converted several friends by example. It is very satisfying to see my friends start down this journey.

I might offend a few people here with this. I’m not fond of veganism because some of them are very intolerant and dogmatic. Since ketogenic diet is becoming more popular, I think it will go the same way for a certain amount of people, it will become a restrictive dogmatic world view. You don’t want to end up like Freelee who suggested holocaust for all people who eat meat.

I don’t think forcing others is the right way and I don’t believe there is one diet that is ideal for 100% of all people either. I know I make this mistake myself. People have to make the choice for themselves, and some people doesn’t want it bad enough or care (to be healthier). You can only help people who are open minded and wants your help. Even if I was an obese and sick person, I wouldn’t want help from anyone who is pushy and judgmental toward me, even if they’re healthier.

Also just because you’re eating keto doesn’t mean you will live long as a guy who smoke and drink, there are other factors that come to play. One is to not stress out so much about how other people should be eating the way you want them to. (with exception since people are asking in this forum I’ll be giving my opinion)

Saw a friend of mine today, ex-co-worker who had to retire. Couple years older than me, longtime diabetic, takes insulin but still doesn’t watch his food intake enough.

It began as “a crack in my heel.” Didn’t get better, and got infected, moved into more of this foot; the doctors treated it but it never fully went away. He could smell the decay. Had surgery on his ankle a couple times, but that too failed to stop it entirely. After much dithering and seeming uncertainty on the doctors’ parts, his left lower leg was finally amputated one inch below the knee.

He seems to be doing all right with a prosthesis. I asked him if his blood sugar was pretty well under control now, and he said it’s up and down, shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes. Did he get his A1C tested? Yes, and “It’s been high, it’s been 13 to 14.”

Maybe some light at the end of the tunnel…I spoke to a friend at the Y yesterday that I haven’t seen in many, many months…she’s morbidly obese and so is her hubby…she noticed that I was skinnier than the last time she saw me and I told her I’ve been doing just more of the same only more intensely…she said her hubby was diagnosed T2D recently and she’s had to change the way she’s been cooking…I spoke to her briefly about Keto/Adkins Induction and some things about cooking…she seems to be more open to suggestions…I’m actually hopeful now even though she’s spoken to me before in the past…we have plans to go to lunch next week and I can feel her out a bit more. So there is a light at the end of the tunnel…one never knows where the opportunity may arise from…one drop in the ocean! KCKO

Agree completely…Be Keto, show them keto by example and be ready to answer questions when they are ready.

I think the most powerful tool is your own body. When people notice they want to know how.
My hubby supports me, but he’s a soda and cake lover. Today WE are having Fathead pizza, and he even shopped for the ingredients!
