Help with calories and macros, please?!

(Alec) #41

You are! Mostly because what you say seems extremely sensible!!

I know I’m new to Keto (9 weeks today) but I did about 3 straight weeks of research before starting. And 2 weeks of mildly interested research before that.

Plus you guys are great teachers!

(Andrea) #43

Well you’re doing better than me. I’ve been at this since last July but the more I read, the more confused I get! lol Need to just keep it simple. I did lose a lot of weight 3 years ago (AIP diet) when I came off arthritis meds (cold turkey…not advisable) and I really didn’t eat much for a year. I maybe haven’t considered the impact of that year on me.

How were you that patient? I was like a typical bloke, straight in at the deep end, no research, just sounded right to me. I came here from fasting, and I suddenly understood why my fasting was working. It was not the CICO (as I had thought), but the much improved insulin.

While I was doing keto and reading on the theory at the same time it was like a light bulb above my head. I am not a scientist, but I am an analyst, and I like looking at numbers. When I looked at the numbers in the research (rather than the commentary of the researchers), I was just astonished. LCHF just works. It has been proven again and again and again, and yet the establishment continue to ignore it. Still amazes me.

I was doing a 12 week biggest loser contest and I had started with LF. I was winning and was too afraid to switch mid contest. The prize was $500.
Another guy was really giving me a run for my money doing Keto, and the more we talked, the more I knew I was going to switch. I just had to win the contest first.

The $500 went to buying Keto recipie books and stocking the pantry and freezer with lots of Keto foods.

That is a great story and what a wonderful twist. I love that you won on the HCLF regime, I am not surprised. I have done this, and I could lose weight really fast on LFHC. It was great, until the inevitable stall, give up, go back to chips and chocolate, and guess what? I am back to 3kg above my starting weight. Happened 10 times to me over 20 years. It was just not sustainable for me. You had to have a will of iron, and I did not.

Keto? I could eat bacon and eggs and nothing else for life and die happy.

(Tricia) #47

I did pretty good today! 1379 calories, 117 fat, 67 pro, 8 total carbs. I actually could’ve eaten more…but I only had a little protein left, and didn’t want to make myself sick with just the fat. BTW…is there a limit to how much hwc?

(Andrea) #48

There is a limit to how much HWC…but I haven’t found it yet! Spread out over the day I could have lots of it but maybe only up to 150ml at a time.

(Tricia) #49

@Alecmcq, thanks so much for that reply. Yes, I need to fix me! Do I need to eat 3 meals so my body knows that food is coming? Right now this is how I’ve been eating:
5:30am- coffee with 11/2 hwc
10am - chicken thigh, 1 egg, 1/2 slice cheddar, 1 Tbl kerrygold butter, and 11/2 Tbl hwc with coffee.
2:30 41/2 oz xlean groung turkey (I dont like the texture of the higher fat one), 1 Tbl Olive oil, 2/3 Tbl coconut oil, 1 slice asiago, 1Tbl blue cheese dressing.
5:30pm coffee with 1 1/2 Tbl hwc, and 3 Tbl sugar free whipped cream in the can. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you made good progress today and there is nothing wrong with taking little steps. Next time just a bite or two more. Your metabolism will just keep climbing right along with you and when your become adapted the elevated base line will let the body drop the weight even faster . Good Job!:+1::clap:

(Tricia) #51

@weedrea, is that equal to 10 tablespoons?

(Tricia) #52

@mtncntrykid, Thanks!!! I’m trying! I know I may gain some, but as long as I don’t “feel” fat, and clothes aren’t tight, I’ll be ok!

(Andrea) #53

…10 tbsp…seems a lot when you say that! I’ve a full cafetiere that makes about 6 small cups of coffee, so maybe 15-20g in each. Feel full for about 6 hrs afterwards though!

(Tricia) #54

I use the Lose It app. It breaks it all down for me.

(Alec) #55

Tricia
You need to let your body tell you that. How does it do that? By hunger. If you are hungry eat, if you are not, don’t. If in doubt, eat fat.

Your overall quantity feels low to me, but you need to let your body tell you whether that is right or not. I emphasise, if in doubt, eat. And preferably fat. I think you will slowly get used to eating more, and this is important. It is likely that in the past, when in doubt you would not eat (that’s what I did when I was CICO). I suggest you switch to eating if in doubt. And be bold. Eat lots. Don’t dance around the edge here, eat until you are fully satisfied.

Note this is not always the advice I give everyone. I am telling you this as I think your top priority is to let your body know it is being well fuelled. When it knows that, the magic will start to happen. When you are eating well, and you feel great, you may then think about some fasting. But one thing at a time. Eat first!

@weedrea, I think that’s about equal to my 1 1/2 Tablespoons. Have you ever tried coconut oil and grass fed butter in your coffee? Or even just hwc and coconut oil…delicious!

(Tricia) #57

Alec, THANK YOU for understanding! I really appreciate your help! When I think about all this, is seems really crazy that something as simple and normal as “eat when you are hungry” is so difficult for me and others. I guess it what we’ve been told our whole lives…starve yourself and lose weight! CICO doesn’t work!

(Alec) #58

Tricia
You got it! Be patient with keto, be patient with yourself. This is for life, not for the next 3 months. You have plenty of time to get this right. We know this because the science is clear, and keto is not just about weight loss, it is also about getting healthy. I would never go back to sugar knowing what I now know. And I am trying to get everyone I know off sugar and carbs as well as I know what poison it is.

KCKO!
Cheers

Ok maybe breaking new ground today…1400 cals. And the scales went down a bit this week so all good. But I’m too high on the protein (damn you halloumi why are you so tasty?!) 80 protein, 105 fat and 16 carbs. And just noticed lettuce has 1.5 carbs per 100g! lol It’s just crunchy water!

(Tricia) #60

Yay!! Good for you!! I was extremely hungry today! 1455 cal, 125 fat!!! 67 pro, 9 total carbs.I are all my meals before 1pm! Why have I been so hungry?? I dont know if it’s good or bad.
