How did you do on vacation
HELP! I'm going on an NYC vacation for 2 weeks in June. How did you come back to Keto and how long did it take?
I appreciate that this is an older thread and that the NYC vacation is probably over and done by now. But the thing that struck me, Ann, is how you put these two sentences above side-by-sideâŚ
If âall he talks about are bagels, cheesecakes, knishes and pizzasâ and he seems to expect you to eat these, how is it also the case that âhe is supportiveâ of you âand your keto lifestyle?â
Youâve been doing FANTASTIC and your health is improving in a marvelous way. What a gift - for both of you.
If your husband supports these life-changing improvements youâve made for the better, he ought to stop expecting you to eat things that are dangerous to your well-being.
And refraining from telling you how wonderful his comfort foods are - knowing your personal health history - would be the appropriate way for him to manage himself while being respectful of your comfort. Instead, youâd been stressing about having to eat things that he wants to eat? Something seems amiss here.
Going forward, you might find a graceful way to tell him as much.
Best wishes to you and congratulations again on your phenomenal progress thus far.
I sort of get this. Spouses can be supportive but also feel, perhaps, like their own sense of enjoyment on a vacation is limited because they are concerned about if the other will be able to âenjoyâ the vacation as they think it should be. âI want a bagel, but she wonât eat the bagel, so maybe we shouldnât even go to the bagel placeâ sort of thinking. It is a tricky thing at times.
But how was the vacation!?

You make a good point. Relationships are complicated.
It seems that much of oneâs success in changing daily eating habits entails navigating the reactions of family, friends, coworkers, etc.
This, in turn, comes down to managing relationships.
Perhaps the forum ought to establish something like a âRelationship Management on Ketoâ category⌠so all of this complicated interpersonal stuff can be discussed?
It appears that an important component to success for many switching over to keto eating is whether theyâre getting needed support - or having to deal with constant resistance from others in their lives. So perhaps a place to share posts and read about what folks are up against - and how they deal with it - might be a helpful way to organize and find such discussion threads?
