Haven't lost a pound... HELP!

(Raj Seth) #41

There have been a cacophony of suggestions for you.

This is what worked for me:

  • I target carbs to ZERO, without being a zealot about it. I love me some keto creamed spinach with 1/2 lb of butter and a quart of heavy cream in the bowl
  • I target protein to moderate - about an 8 oz burger, or equivalent a day - for your lighter frame, maybe 1/2 that)
  • I get all my energy from FAAAAAAT
  • I avoid mainstream meats like chicken breast, turkey breast, lean anything. Why would I waste my protein bullets on a lean meat? Besides fatty meats taste so much better - bacon and pork belly, fatty ribeye, juicy burgers, crispy wings or thighs, etc.
  • I do not complicate my life with chia seeds, hemp, flax, keto treats etc.
  • I haven’t done any non keto - none - in 6 months (I am uber-motivated by the mortality of my body racked by diabetes, hypertension, obesity SW 300, CW 213)

If all this is too complicated, a true purist keto entry can be done elegantly by following Dan Quibells bacon experiment - bacon4free.com. Eat nothing but 1.5 lbs of bacon a day for 30 days. That’ll fix it.
Benefits of the bacon experiment:

  • Guaranteed Ketosis
  • Food becomes boring (if you can call bacon boring!) so now you can eat to live, instead of living to eat
  • $$ saved
  • High likelihood of stunning results
  • simplicity

Great suggestions… So are you saying you only have one 8oz serving of protein daily (or 4oz for me)? And if that’s the case, have you seen a decrease in muscle mass?

(Kristin Birdzell) #43

And also, another question… The day’s I do workout, should I take in more calories to compensate?

I don’t. I exercise fasted (because running on anything high fat, even just a snack) REALLY doesn’t work so well with my stomach. And I eat my first meal between 12:30-1ish and my 2nd and last between 6-8, depending on my crazy schedule. I don’t eat any more than I do on my off days.

Nobody is saying to eat butter on top of butter but from reading your menu, you are eating a few things you shouldn’t be. Understand that even the smallest amount of additives can stall your progress. With keto it’s extremely important to eat as clean as possible. We are all different in the way our bodies react to food. Some people may be able to get away with eating Italian sausage full of corn syrup and dextrose but others wont, and you may be one of those who can’t. To see progress you’re going to have to make some changes. I highly doubt your activity level has anything to do with your lack of weight loss. I strongly believe it is what you’re eating.

Heavy cream absolutely does contain lactose. It may not be as much as other dairy but it does contain it.

I do two 20 minute walks a day, one before I have breakfast and the second one before I have dinner. I also try not to eat anything after 8:00pm, that’s a good tip that works from a previous diet program. It means you’ve fasted at least 11-12 hours before your breakfast but harder to do than it sounds. My exercise routine is just walking, nothing heroic and the weight just falls off me. Oh yes and drink 8 glasses of water a day. This routine works whether you are doing Keto or not, the difference for me is that I’m not starving on the Keto diet and that is truly wonderful. Everyone is different and I like to think that you should do what works for you.

Not the kind I get. Land o lakes from Costco. Lists calories from fat - 50 (per tbsp) and carbs as 0. So at most it could have 0.4 calories from lactose, or 1/10 gm of lactose. I’ll take that as zero.

(Kristin Birdzell) #49

One thing I should probably mention… I make my own sausages with my meat grinder… That should be better, right? At least I know what’s in it anyway

(LeeAnn Brooks) #50

Yes, that makes a big difference. With no sugar added, sausage is very Keto friendly.

unless you are weighing on a scale that shows fat loss, you can’t know for sure! Twice in the last 6 weeks, I’ve had NO drop on the scale but up to 4#s of FAT loss (I weigh at a medical clinic with a fancy scale)

Maybe check out the Non-Scale Victories thread to check out all the things happening to our bodies on keto besides weight loss.

KCKO!

There is actually very little lactose in cream because it is all milkfat.

(Kristin Birdzell) #53

Nope I have a regular scale. All I know is that my clothes fit the same as before… I think I’m going to compile all these suggestions and make a few tweaks and see what happens. I really appreciate everyone’s help and encouragement! I plan on upping my fat and decreasing protein a little. Bullet proof coffee will be an every day norm, and will incorporate more oils in my cooking.

So many great suggestions here I hesitate to chime in, but here is how I’ve just broken a 5 month plateau:

  • eliminate any carb I can, e.g., I’m no longer adding cacao or cream to my keto coffee. My only carbs are in greens, avocado, and nuts.
  • no snacking - it raises insulin
  • no artificial sweeteners - they raise insulin
  • no processed meats, uncured bacon only
  • smaller portions of protein, and it cannot be lean

Good news - while this sounds restrictive, it’s actually easier because my energy is increased and appetite decreased.
