Has anyone actually MOVED somewhere with better food options?

(Doug) #21

To actually move away because of the food availability in a given area sounds very harsh indeed. I guess it could happen…

I think that 99.99% of us try and make the best of wherever we are.

Like when they bring fries instead of the side salad you tried to substitute them for, and figure “well, too late now, don’t want them to go to waste”.

…wait, is that just me?

I was thinking more about breakfast actually. I dislike when the make an omelete on a flat top and spread the eggs out everywhere then roll it all up. I want my omelete cooked in a skillet and fluffy, not flat and rolled up.

There’s a really high-end steak house about an hour from us and they bring you a hunk of meat and a 750 degree lava rock. You slice the meat and cook it as long as you want. The last time we were there was probably just that, the last time. Side veggies were mush, my son’s fries looked like they sat in a bucket of oil all day, and because they don’t actually cook your steak, it comes out before you can get halfway through the salad. It was someone’s birthday and I let the waitress know that we’d like a piece of cake (bday person is not keto). The brought an entire cake. Now the non-keto folks didn’t mind, but it just made the entire experience even more weird.

This is making me want to go out tonight but I know we’ll just be disappointed.

Uh…yeah, that’s what I meant too. Forget that fry comment… I mean I’ve never done that

(Bacon for the Win) #25

of course not! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

No - lovely though that area looks I’m actually in south east Australia

#27

Probably my parents place because they always have bacon and butter there.

Yes, but now w/ online shopping, especially Amazon, you can buy a lot of stuff you might not be able to find in your local store.

The UPS driver has my husband’s cell phone number… we order a LOT from Amazon!

When it’s been raining a lot he’ll call before he comes out here to find out if his truck can make it across our low-water creek. But I wouldn’t change a thing - love it out here in the peaceful Ozarks. :slightly_smiling_face:

Another meal out, another disappointment. Went to a wedding shower for a friend’s son and fiance. Nice gathering and it was catered by a local BBQ joint that (most) people love. When I say local I mean at least an hour from me, but closer to the friend’s house. I won’t go through it item by item, but suffice it to say my husband’s Q is much better. He also makes his own rubs and sauces without sugar and I like them that way.

Had our own bacon wrapped scallops for dinner. Was not disappointed.

Isn’t it true though. A part of me thinks we should go to a nice steak house and try something new, but DH bbq’s so amazing I don’t seethe point. Same with ribs, I love our pork ribs the best.

#32

Pork ribs are so delicious. I haven’t made them recently since I have cut my carbs out because I had previously always used some sort of sweet sauce. I will have to find a good savory sauce now. Thanks for the reminder.

#33

I ike pork ribs w/ a dry rub. In fact, I like most meat w/ a dry rub and not BBQ sauce. I have always disliked BBQ sauce because it is always too sweet. And I don’t like ketchup on meatloaf either!

I prefer mustard based or vinegar based sauces, but just a little bit, if the meat is cooked right with a good rub, no sauce is necessary.

We do pork ribs with lemon pepper. That’s all it needs for me.
