GallBladder Info

(Ashley) #1

So I have been telling a friend of mine about keto diet. Question being, she informed me she doesn’t have a gull bladder and gets physically ill from fats. Does anyone here not have a gull bladder and have any information I could pass along to her? Her and her girlfriend are considering starting this woe on Friday but would need to know if it’s even possible for her considering no gull bladder.

If you do a search for “gall bladder,” you’ll find quite a few people on here that do fine without one. A good friend of mine is keto & has nogall bladder. Some folks take some kind of bile supplement; I can’t remember what it’s called. But it can be done!

I tried searching but I only came up with a few saying they felt uncomfortable. So wasn’t sure if I was just searching it wrong. Wondering what time of bile supplement it is

Ahh I see I spelt it wrong, could be completely why!!

I had my gallbladder removed last year. My first keto week was rough. I’ve been fine ever since. Although MCT oil isn’t my friend.

My gall bladder was removed 3 years ago. Never any problems with keto nor any “high fat” eating. Several other people with no gall bladder have posted on this forum - there are varying levels of tolerating high fat.

Some people have success with supplementing enzymes - pancreatin and lipase, or “bile salts, ox bile,” etc., - regardless of whether on a ketogenic diet or not.

Thanks Ron been reading through these

Thank you Doug, I will let her know about the bile enzymes if she has any issues.

That’s my biggest worry is the first week being tough and her giving up

This is a great one if you haven’t seen it yet and I’ll butt out.
Gallbladder does impact fat digestion

I had my gallbladder out in March.

I waited almost a month before transitioning back to low carb/keto.

It took my body maybe a month before all the plumbing seemed to be working as it did before.
It was only really bad a couple times. Most of the time it was just “not quite normal.”

I don’t have any issues any more.

Great to know Jeff, I think she’s giving it a go! Excited for her

I had my gallbladder out about 10 years ago due to having daily stomach aches for about 9 months (tons of little stones). Nothing post gall bladder was ever as bad as that last 9 months. Anyway, I could eat bacon at lunch, just not dinner because I had to have other foods to digest along with it for the duration is was digesting. Mayo too.

However, oddly enough, I have absolutely no problems on keto. None whatsoever. And. . . the indigestion I had whenever I ate too much onion, garlic or tomato sauce has completely disappeared after starting keto. I used to use tums daily at night to prevent that acid coming back up with a burp. I haven’t used Tums since the day I started keto.

Wow that’s great! I’m glad keto fixed that for you, now that I think of it keto fixed a lot of my acid reflux. I hardly have it now.
