Food and glucose spike

(Liz Santiago) #21

Thanks, but I don’t even know how to go lower because I cook all my food and it is hard to track the exact numbers . I use my fitness pal and more or less I calculate but like just know I am making lunch so I am cooking chicken thighs in butter and garlic with cilantro in one pan and in another I am making broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, spinach, kale in garlic and butter. How do I even know how many carbs in a cup of that? How do you track?

(Robin) #22

When I ate veggies, I was amazed at the number of carbs in them.

Hey Liz… I’ve always wanted to say I wish you would change your picture/avatar on here. I know it’s absolutely ridiculous, but I subconsciously hear an angry tone of voice due to that dang angry bird! Lolol

My original post was about food and glucose specifically my coffee and I wanted to share that I think today I found the spike was the stevia. I drank it today as usual but just changed the stevia for allulose after watching a video saying that it might even lower your glucose or something about the impact when use with food with carbs. Anyway, I test my glucose before and it was 84 at 7am , after drinking my coffee it went down to 79 and it has been like that up until now 10:54. So I guess for some reason it might be the stevia (I use great value) or maybe that I am using to much. Stevia is supposed to be as sweet as sugar but for me is not. I used to drink my 7eleven extra large coffee before keto with 6 packets of sugar so now I was using double of that with stevia maybe even 3 times thinking that since it has no carbs it would not matter. The only problem wit allulose was that it gave me the most awful case of diarrhea and I only used 2 Tbs. Tomorrow I will test it again with another kind of sugar.

LOL, that is connected to my gmail and it was my son who put it but I have tried to change it and for some reason it won’t change.

my avatar is supposed to be my bitmoji which shows in my account but not here.

Percentages simply don’t work. Does your tracking app not give you averages of what you’re actually typically eating?

At 1200 cals that would be 30g Carbs, 93g Fat, 60g protein. That would be more fat than I could ever lose bodyfat with, and horribly low protein for anybody IMO.

What about the 1500 you mentioned? Then you’re at 37g Carbs, 116g fat, 75g protein.

See how that’s all over the place? What if you over eat that day, do you then eat more carbs and fat to balance out the extra piece of meat? That’s why percentages don’t work. If you’re eating to much fat (fuel) to lose, then up your intake, which sometimes is needed, but in the process you’re adding even more fuel, you’re doing the total opposite of what you’re going for.

Go by grams, and you have to figure out your TDEE, then use that number whether you like that total or not and once verified, that’s your starting point for tweaking. But with no working out, that’s going to be very difficult.

I’d look into the Macrofactor app. It does everything for you. Not free, but beyond worth it because it makes all of this brainless. Put in your info, set it for Keto/Low Carb and go!

The app I use does not count net carbs so I do 30. :pensive: this is so hard to track. I would not mind paying but like I said it is kind of hard to track when you cook your own food. Well, you made me to go and walk with my son for 30 minutes. I don’t mind walking but it is sooooo boring if I do not have someone with me, and music does not do it for me.!

If that’s the case, you should report the product to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No non-sugar sweetener is allowed to be sold in the U.S. if it raises glucose. The manufacturer is required to supply evidence that it does not, before the FDA will permit the product to enter the market.

(Liz Santiago) #29

I will try again tomorrow with monk fruit if it does not raise it then it is the great value stevia because I drank my coffee exactly the same as every day the only difference was that and my glucose went down. However I think it has to do with the amount or the brand because I use liquid stevia from splenda with my tea and it does not raise it.

(Allie) #30

Really?!

Which further confirms that there’s no point anyone trying to help you because you won’t listen. You’re complaining that you’re not getting results with what you’re doing but are not willing to make any changes.

If you’re doctor is telling you to live on 1200 calories then you need a new doctor that actually knows about metabolism.

(Allie) #31

Because it contains maltodextrin which is a sugar.

#32

As @Shortstuff said, it’s the Maltodextrin, it’s MORE glycemic than table sugar. I use it for post workout carbs sometimes when I’m in a rush. For sweeteners I typically go with the liquids, that way you avoid them being bulked with stuff. The Splenda brand Granular Stevia is Stevia and Erythritol, so if you don’t have sugar alcohol problems, that’s actually a good one. I typically use Sweet Drops though, which is liquid Sucralose, 1 drop = 1tsp sugar sweetness.

(Liz Santiago) #33

Are you fuc@!@# kidding me!!! all this time I have used it and did not even occurred to me to check. I just though it was the same as the splenda brand just cheaper so I switched to save. Thank you so much for that!!!

(Liz Santiago) #34

I do listen, I just did not see that.

(Liz Santiago) #35

When you don’t know, you just trust the person you think should know. I have an app in two weeks and I guess I will have to talked to her to make some changes.

(Liz Santiago) #36

how come the liquid one does not have it and the granular one does?

(Alec) #37

This. I used to be a scale jockey until Robin (and others) convinced me to step away from the scales. Life is better now, and I am a lot slimmer!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #38

So you might say that, in a sense, the scales fell from your eyes?:rofl::rofl:

(Okay, I’ll let myself out; no need to get huffy, lol!)

#39

With the granular it has to be cut or you’d be putting 1/8th of a tablespoon in stuff. The idea is to attempt to match sweetness 1:1 with sugar per tsp. The liquids just get diluted with water to whatever strength they want.

The little squeeze bottles on the shelf are pretty weak, but the commercial ones like EZ Sweets and SucraDrops are very strong. Pretty sure my EZ Sweets is like 1200 servings per bottle at 1 drop per tsp sugar.

I like my coffee sweet and now I have to find another sweetener but at least today I tried allulose and not a keeper, I have been in the bathroom all day. Is this the one you use?
