Exiting/Coming Off Keto

(less is more, more or less) #21

In a round about way, this was my experience, although more specifically, from Atkins, 15 years ago, to Westman, starting June 2017. I’m at my maintenance weight now, but love the food I’m eating… and not eating, now that I know what it does to me.

I just wish I hadn’t waited 15 years for my bloody eureka moment. C’est la vie.

I have lost and gained weight on many different diets, including Aktins, during my life as fat guy, thin guy, fat guy thin guy, fat guy…

You hit the hammer on the nail. Keto is different for me because as you said: “… but love the food I’m eating… and not eating, now that I know what it does to me.”

I know now that the food I was eating before Keto was preventing my brain to work properly. That is great motivation for me to stay on Keto. It took me longer for my eureka moment since I did Aktins in the 80’s.

@CrustyCrouton, I guess I’ll be the lone voice here. The reality is, keto is not one-size fits all and for many, this may not be a long term fit. I’ve been on keto for 3 years and decided to begin to re-add carbs for many reasons. For me, medically and hormone wise, it was a good move for me. So weekly, I’ve increased my carbs by 10% and lowered my fat by 10%. I will amend this week by week till I get to the new macros I’m looking for. Will I at some point return back to keto, in some form, likely. I think I’ll likely settle into LCHF in some form but for now, I’ll be adding complex carbs (think sweet potato) and not simple carbs (ie: breads/etc) each week in some small way. Best of luck to you and do what is best/makes sense for you. Remember, everyone will have an opinion. Do you my friend!

Actually many people find 20 grams does not work for them. I started out strictly keto, lost most of my weight. then I followed the Atkins ladder to add carbs that worked for me. I eat about 50 grams and a carb load day for me I might hit 75grams. But I also do a lot of Intermittent Fasting and some Extended Fasting to reach my goal weight and maintain it. I’m coming up on two years of maintenance in May. My carbs are all complex ones, no processed ones. So it can work well. All the best in your efforts to find what works for you.

Well said, @collaroygal - I’ve seen for so many females how important it is for many of you to have higher carb amount and a purposely timed “carb up” on a consistent basis. As you said, we have to find what works for us!
