Easier to be skinny in the 80's?

I was certainly thin in the 80s. Probably because I was in my 20s, single, exercised a lot, and was a nicotine addict. I used to be a runner. I think I got down to about 167 at one time at my fittest in maybe 1984. Stayed pretty fit by running, bicycling, some weightlifting through about age 35, so early 90s. Switched to a sedentary job and gave up nicotine. It has been a battle ever since.

I am now back down to about the same weight I was in the mid-90s, so only one more decade of time-reversal to go.

Susan Powter and I hero worshipped her -followed her plan 2002-2003 and dropped over 100 pounds in 8 months -problem was I also destroyed my gall bladder, which had to be removed from doing that, and I gained it all back within a year as well…!!

growing up in the 80’s… I think I was the last baby in the 70’s to get the breastfed seal of approval. By the time my younger sisters were born, my mom was told to not breastfeed and give formula instead. Formula was best! EEK! I think being breast fed set me up for success in the 1980’s to 90’s in regards to maintaining my weight as a child until my 30’s(although in my 30’s it was game over, breast fed baby turned adult vs the food industry and antidepressants didn’t really matter) . One of my sisters had a hard time with weight where I never struggled. So I think that actually may have made it a bit easier to be skinny in the 80’s, this is just conjecture though. What I do believe really helped being skinny in the 80’s? NO SNACKING. Although I wasn’t intermittent fasting as a kid…lol, We only ate 3 meals a day. No snacks. None whatsoever. It was a big deal if we had dessert. Maybe on Fri night we might have dessert, that was it. Most of the time, in the 80’s 12 hr fasting was pretty much the norm. We just didn’t call it that. IT was 3 meals a day. EAt supper and you waited till breakfast to eat! Mcdonalds was a treat. Maybe once every few months. if that. Also growing up poor , actually helped. Mcdonalds was a treat because in my blue collar rust belt town, we could not afford fast food. Also biked as a teenager. Couldn’t afford a car to get back and forth to my afterschool job. Back then I was a loser for not having a car and biking. Nowadays I’d be a cool environmental warrior hipster for biking everywhere.

Growing up in the 80s. I had my first child in 81. Was 21 at the time. When I was married in 1979. I weighed 140# was about right. During my pregnancy, I gained 50#. Was put to bed at 8months along. Had preeclampsia. “Pre-Eclampsia” Seems after that my weight was up and down. Only 1 time I weighed 125# and that was with pills and a weekly shot. Not sure what the shot was but got pretty small! But wasnt long lived. Over the yrs my weight seemed to never get under 160. Wow would Love to weigh that now. That is my goal weight. Over the many yrs I think I tryed every diet out there! And in the process, did some irreversible damage. With Keto, I feel this will be the 1 that my results will be long lived. Many of my health issues have cleared up. Or stabilized. Wish I would have known about this yrs ago.

Oh I remember her ‘stop the insanity’. I think she had good workouts, but the carby foods she promoted didn’t do much for me, I lost @20 lbs. and put it all back on in a short period of time, along with a few new friendly lbs. Ended up 30 over where I had started from.

So glad I know that carbs are not my friend if they are not green.

This is why I don’t worry it’s taking time to take my weight off! I worry sometimes I’m stalling due to certain things but it just means I have things to figure out!

Yes, I have lost 47 pounds but I have over 120 more to go, not sure exact amount… will see where my body is at 120 more gone and if I have to lose more, will go from there.I am guessing this is going to take 2 years more or more to get there anyway.

Means your skin should tighten decently though, losing to fast can cause issues! It’s where we end up, not how long it takes to get there!

Yes, Ashley, I agree, you are totally right… but I still do get frustrated at times that it is going so slow even though I know that to be true, hahaha.
