Did long term Keto stop working for you? Help!

That sounds awesome & after 2 1/2 years & 90 some pounds lost, that is exactly how I want to live my life & that’s struggle I’ve been having. When I was fat I felt like food ruled me because I was addicted to sugar & over eating. Now that I’m not fat (but still have 15 or so pounds left to lose), I feel like tracking my food & obsessing over macros is ruling me. I feel imprisoned either way & I hate it. I have done IF my entire Keto journey with fasting from 8-9:30pm to about 1pm the following day other than a coffee w/heavy cream & cashew milk in the morning. I’ve occasionally thrown in a 24hr fast, though I hadn’t done that in months, so I started that this week to try to change things up. How do you normally fast ( how many hours etc)? I did lose 8oz after eating more fat calories (feasting) & extending my fast the following day, so hopefully changing up my routine helped!

What do you think about trying some new foods within your macros? Maybe your body is used to the same old same old…just a thought.

#23

Yes I have thought about that too. I’m going to try to get some different things at the grocery store tomorrow!

First, my bias: I want to exert the least amount of effort needed to achieve my desired result. My goal is to reduce IR, so I want to keep insulin as low as feasible. After I’ve eaten, I don’t eat again until my body has finished “processing” the food*. This is determined by measuring my morning fasted BG. If its above 85 mg/dL then I fast until it drops below 70. This could take as little as 1 day if was only slightly above (~75g) my carb tolerance or as much as 3-4 days if it was dinner and desert at someplace like the Cheesecake Factory.

*this is a general rule. My eating is ultimately dictated by my social calendar.

I lost 8oz from Monday to Tuesday. And now weighing in today (Friday), I have gained 2oz since Tuesday. I’ve tried switching up my eating & fasting routines by fasting breakfast & lunch instead of only breakfast, I’ve tried changing up what I’m eating… macros still perfect.
Monday: 1790 cal/160 fat/65 pro/ 17 tot carb/ 15 net carb (feast day)
Tues: 1554 cal/ 144 fat/ 47 pro/ 13 tot carb/ 11 net carb (fasted breakfast with only coffee, broke fast at 3pm until around 7:30)
Wed: 1538 cal/ 135 fat/ 64 pro/ 15 tot carb/ 13 net carb (fasted breakfast, broke fast at 5pm & ate until around 8:30)
Thur: 1412 cal/ 122 fat/ 53 pro/ 20 tot carb/ 19 net carb. (Fasted breakfast, only coffee, ate lunch & dinner)

I am so beyond frustrated right now. I don’t know how to link my fitness pal but my profile is public if anyone wants to look at it, username tanyaritz. My body feels stuck and I get so angry because I try so hard & what worked for so long seems like it doesn’t work for me anymore & that scares the crap out of me because I don’t want to gain all the weight I’ve lost back.

You’re driving yourself crazy. Stop tracking macros. Stop weighing yourself. You’re 15 lbs from your goal weight. Its time to stop letting this rule your life. There are way more interesting things in life to focus your energies on. Take up a new hobby. Learn a new sport. Enroll in a class at the local community college…

^^^ Yup to this. My scale can vary 1-2 lbs just by where on the scale I’m standing and whether it’s Tuesday or if the sun is shining. And excess stress is not your friend in this venture. I think we can all (or almost all) relate to the frustration you’re feeling, but speaking only for myself, it’s not finally seeing results that ended my frustration but rather just letting myself relax about the ups and downs.

This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Obsessing over daily changes, up or down, will only raise your cortisol levels. And besides insulin, cortisol is the other hormone known to influence weight gain.

Like I tell myself running when I hit a hill, “deep breaths. You got this.”

Ok thanks everyone.

Some suggestions, firstly you can try to cut some of the fat out so your body has to use its own fat reserves and secondly get some ashwaganda drops… I have them in a half a glass of Luke warm water, 3 squirts. Taste like tea , don’t know why it helps but when I have them my weight drops and stays off. A personal trainer on keto suggested them to me as well as maca powder and I have that with a protein shake mixed with almond milk and olive oil, if I have one, it’s only after a weight training session at the gym. Intermittent fasting I’m sure most have suggested.

As for cheat times. I agree with you in that as long as you can get right back too keto then a handfull of cheat meals a year whilst loosing weight probably isn’t a huge deal. If it means you can stick to the diet the rest of the time.

Also if your eating the same amount of calories as you did when you where nearly 100lp heaver then you body may have a lower threshold now your smaller.
