I love flavorful food. Especially beef mussaman curry. I thai. I use cronometer and i use the closest match if I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. As far as steaks, I cut off what I don’t eat and measure what I will eat and log that. To me, flavors help my soul. If I can’t enjoy my keto then I won’t get the results I want or maintain sustainability. I do track my food, but no matter what you do or what app you use you’ll never get 100% accuracy. Its always going to be best estimate. I have my carb limit set to 15g to account for any underestimates and it’s been working fantastic for me, everything else I just lazy keto.
Confused about how many carbs are in your foods?
I track my ketones. If I log < 15g carbs my blood ketones sit at 0.9 which for me averages 3-4lb weight loss a week. I have my regimen dialed in pretty well after 3 months with fantastic results and I’ve dropped my a1c down to 5.0 from 5.8, all of my blood work just came back with fantastic results in all areas. I used my ketone meter to fine tune my daily intake and now that I’ve gotten my regimen dialed in, I don’t have to test because I know where I’ll be already. I think meters are a good source to get you on the right path and give some confidence and a sense of security to the newbies like me, but after someone becomes comfortable with their routine and find what works for them, meters become far less necessary IMO. The only time I check my ketones anymore is when I change my routine and I’m not sure if its the right move or not.
I used to have caps every day but decided the milk was causing too much grief, so now it’s one a week after a long run… all other coffee is black with cream. Much better keto fare.
Very much this. That said, tracking can help you see if you are in the right ballpark and help you learn about foods. Just don’t take the numbers too seriously.
And while compulsively rewarding yourself for every little thing with unhealthy treats is not a balanced way to live, food is to be enjoyed. If having good health means carnivore, then that is the enjoyable way for you. Doesn’t mean it would be for others.
People like to talk about human physiology like it is a machine. Input the correct numbers and you will get the correct output. It is so much more complex, nuanced, and beautiful than that.
Yes I’ve gone black with cream too. Not as nice as a good cap, but good enough I suppose.
My capsule based coffee machine puts just enough froth on top to support a sprinkle of chocolate (yes yes I know … but it’s way less than 1g so no problems with keto)
Ruina! That takes all the fun out of obsessing over the numbers!
(Just saying. )
Beep beep beeeeeep, whirrrrrrr, beep, whirrrrrr
Does not compute. File corrupted.
I switched to Total carbs instead of net. As for protein, I weigh a steak before I eat it and then subtract any bone or inedible fat that I didn’t eat. This gives me a Correct count for protien. I need to track to keep me honest and aware of exactly what I am consuming.
@azshari I get the bone weight idea, I was really thinking more about the variations between several steaks. Like one might be 15% fat and another 11% which make the fat to protein ratio variable between two rib eye steaks for instance. Not obsessing over it, it was just a realization of the built in inaccuracies when you try to estimate macros. Again this whole thing is an experiment after 5 months of lazy keto to analyze my eating habits.
My thoughts entirely. It’s not the slight sprinkling of choc that’s the issue, it’s all the milk. I even used to have skinny cap for 30 years after being deceived by the low fat dietary CW. No wonder I got fat.
