Can we please start calling it 'carb withdrawal' and retire the current term?

I have to 100% agree. I came from a Clean eating lifestyle, which didn’t include a lot carbs. An occasional sweet potato, a little brown rice, brown rice pasta, or quinoa. Nothing to the extent of some vegetarians or vegans. Lucky if I had something once a month. Not a big sweet fan either. I started a Ketogenic Lifestyle because of Health issues. I jumped in the next day after my ND said it would be the best “diet” to help resolve and prevent some issues. I didn’t experience any of the symptoms that are suppose to be the “Keto flu” and I attribute that to not being “carb loaded” It’s not the lifestyle, it’s from what kind of eating lifestyle that came before you started a Ketogenic lifestyle. Blaming being Keto for the Keto flu is just nonsense! Carbohydrate withdrawal is more like it!

My mom tried “Sunrise” coffee… She hated the stuff… It gave her terrible headaches.

I was like 9 when she said this… MANY years later I experienced caffeine withdraw. And I remembered my moms comment and I laughed until I cried. May she rest in piece. But the poor gal had no idea that she was addicted to caffeine and nicotine like she was. She was also a carboholic. And I am confident the carbs in her diet made ALL of her issues worse!

My husband and I were JUST talking about this last night! Sometimes we hear people say how they tried keto and got so sick from it. Then they say that after they had some carbs, they felt better. Thus, proving how much we need carbs. But I see it as sugar/carb withdrawal and liken it very much to drug withdrawals…and I’ve been through it all. Kicked everything else before the carbs.

YES! We need to call it this. My aunt (issues with gluten) was going keto with her boyfriend. She ended up quitting in the beginning because of the “keto flu” and I told my dad about it. My step mom came in and said “IF QUITTING A FOOD MAKES SOMEONE GET SICK THEN IT’S NOT HEALTHY AND THEY SHOULDN’T BE DOING IT!”

If I could go back, I would say “so, you shouldn’t quit smoking/drinking because it would give you withdrawal symptoms? huh”

I have been saying carb and sugar withdrawal in all my replies to new people to the forum since @amwassil suggested this and I felt it was a great idea =).
