Can’t seem to eat enough calories

looks like I have some work to do…figuring out where I need to be and give it a shot. thank you for all your knowledge.

I’m 6’1” and was 235lbs in January 2018. I’ve dropped 45 pounds since then by listening to my body mostly. I tracked macros in the beginning just to get a handle on what I was doing. About a month in I realized that I just wasn’t as hungry as before and so I didn’t eat. I’m within 5 pounds of my goal weight and recently started feeling hungrier than I have recently. Started tracking again so I can be sure I’m getting the protein that I need. Fats to satiety as usual and however many greens I can put down. My point is I wouldn’t worry so much about the calorie count as long as your getting adequate protein. I think your body will tell you when it needs more. Sluggish, brain fog= eat more fats. Just my 2 cents.

I highly suggest checking out The Obesity Code. I think after reading that, you may alter your opinion.

Try this, throw 25 grams of butter into your pan and cook your omelette with that, there’s 180 cals right there. I add a teaspoon of Psyllium husks into my omelette mix and that helps to absorb the butter. I’m assuming you’re having trouble eating enough fat calories. Olive oil in your cooking is good, Macadamias are a great source of fat but you need to watch the protein levels don’t get too high as well.

I also pour the fat from my pan, after cooking my lamb chops, onto my vegetables. I know that sounds gross but I don’t care it gets it done.

I eat three times a day, lunch is very light for me, breakfast is my biggest meal. I do IF from 6:00pm to 8:30am the next day, and have no problem getting enough calories.

Hey thanks so much for all the tips yeah the fat is the hardest to bulk up on. I’ll try adding the butter to eggs btw isn’t husk really lactive ?

(Terence Dean) #26

No its not a laxative, it just adds fiber to your food which helps with constipation issues. Don’t use too much or it can bind you up.

Correction: I found an article on Psyllium apparently it can be used as a laxative.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318707.php

‘Psyllium is commonly used as a laxative. However, it can also relieve diarrhea and help reduce triglycerides, cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure levels.’

Read it three times at least. Which part are you referring to? I don’t think that even he would disagree that everyone’s physiology is different. I’m not suggesting excessive protein. I’m suggesting adequate protein based on body mass. I understand that excessive protein spikes insulin.

(Frank) #28

Don’t you think that he himself is on a calorie restriction diet with all the IF and EF that he does? The closer I’m getting to my goal weight less body fat I have in reserve so my hunger hormones are like hey give me some more food (fats and protein) because the grocery store is running low (body fat). I’m still keeping my insulin in check with low carb but I’ve definitely raised my overall calories back up to maintain levels or close to it anyway. Weight loss has slowed way down obviously but I’m also not ravenously hungry. I’m rambling sorry.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #29

I’m referring to calorie count as in calorie counts being too low, or restricted.

But I think I may have misinterpreted your comment. It came after a series of posts about calories being too low. So I inferred it as “don’t be concerned about low calories,” but perhaps you meant “don’t worry about keeping calories low.” ???

This
Then just topped your omelette w another 1-2 tbsp of butter
100-200 more calories right there
Oh…and it’s tasty

(Terence Dean) #31

Yeah you got it, I didn’t want to scare the OP by suggesting she dump 50g of butter in the pan! If I think I’m going to be a bit low on my fat requirements I’ll just make it up with butter, its too easy. I use salted, organic, New Zealand butter, the packaging has 50g divisions marked on it, so I dont even need to weigh the stuff. Chop it and in the pan!

Good one
Yeah. Understandable for sure
It’s just easy like you said

Butter…added b4 cooking, added in during cooking added after cooking , the best one just eat by itself …many times it’s ALL the above for me
No matter what I am eating
