Breaking my fast resulting in sudden diarrhea - Help? Keto-adaptation or?

fasting

I’ve noticed this too and I’d like to suggest a different explanation. I ate nothing for 36 hours, except for a couple of coffees with cream; I was cold and hungry and didn’t want my metabolism to slow.

It seems to me that what happens is that after my guts have had nothing to do for 36 hours, peristalsis sets in very quickly as soon as I eat and so flushes out what had been left behind before I started to fast. What comes out cannot possibly be what I have just eaten, because there hasn’t been time for it to be digested

I believe your explanation is much closer to the truth. I ate a steak after breaking my fast. Onset diarrhea in 2 hours. No way that steak digested that fast.

I broke my fast after 40 hours and 2 hours later I felt waves of contractions starting at my stomach and heading to my bowel. Only just made it to the loo :toilet:

This isn’t the first time I’ve fasted. I started the keto diet after a 44 hour fast after Christmas and I do at least one 24 hour fast a week and have had no issues like this before however I have known others who do. :poop:

I have a feeling it’s to do with gut flora as I normally take probiotics but haven’t taken any in over a week as I ran out. I will test it out with my next fast and let y’all know.

I’ve done intermittent fasting, time restricted feeding and calorie restriction mostly (using healthy/clean keto). Just completed my first 48hr fast and broke it with a version of bulletproof coffee (cacao, Ghee, and MCT oil with 4sigmatic Decaf) and took my seed symbiotic. Approximately thirty minutes later I started my salad. Then it hit me, like so many have mentioned here, immediate but short :boom: Hope I didn’t waste that dose of seed (it ain’t cheap).

I only took a few bites of my salad. I wonder how long I need to wait before trying to finish it? Any advice?
