Blood pressure, is staying high. Ugh!

Most people are deficient in magnesium and there is no reliable inexpensive method to test… No harm in increasing magnesium - just do it slowly bc it can impact your regularity. I do 1200mg Mag malate in daytime and 1000mg chelated magnesium in the evening which also helps with sleep. There are a bunch of different forms of magnesium that have a variety of different purposes and absorption levels. Potassium is trickier, as you know… but always slide things by your doc or pharmacist.

I  Wim Hof! “Get high on air” - when I’m doing his deep breathing exercise, by the end I can hold my breath for several minutes! Check out his YouTube videos. Relieves anxiety and pain too.

Hyper-oxygenation (you need oxygen to start a fire?) that’s why amphibians can hold there breath so long under water; research scientists noticed that the people or humans they call “Holy Divers” can do the same because they have bigger spleens and can tolerate extremely cold water or conditions.

Ronnie James Dio based one of his songs on “Holy Diver(s)” because he was so impressed by them.

They dive off cliffs at night (in the dark) into the ocean!

Daddyoh, my doctor doesn’t know how much potassium I take. But she does know what I take. I don’t think she ever asked me about how much, but she does do blood tests every 6 months and those come out normal, for what that’s worth.

Way back, four months into keto I had to increase my potassium until I was getting close to 4500 mg a day from both food and supplements. This brought my BP back to normal (it had been very, very high and I had begun to have very high heart rate as well). Supplementing potassium quickly brought my BP and heart rate down to really good levels (121/73 and heart rate very normal). Mostly, I try to get potassium from food and not pills. So I was eating a lot of celery, avocado, salmon, etc.

Then, after months I began being more relaxed about the potassium high foods. Now I’m wondering if I really should target high potassium foods again. That’s one of the things I have started doing again. My heart rate hasn’t been an issue lately, though, just BP.

Atlanta girl, I used to take magnesium glycinate but now am taking magnesium citrate. Since I track everything I can see that I take about 375 mg daily in supplement form, the rest I assume I get from food. My tracker thinks I get about 600 (give or take) a day. I will slowly increase that and see how that affects me. I do tend to be constipated, so more might be good!

Paendora, I’ve never heard of Wim Hof! I will check him out when I get a chance. I don’t do well at deep breathing exercises as I typically don’t sit still long! I’m away from home this weekend, and have lots of time to sit and wait while my boys are in their chess games, so no excuse not to try.

Internet is unreliable in the lobby of the hotel, so watching videos may not happen until I get home Monday night or Tuesday. But I can certainly breath deeply!

Thanks for all the help everyone!!

It’s either too much salt, or not enough salt.

#46

My sodium is usually around 3000 mg daily. Sometimes a bit lower, sometimes a bit higher. Rarely is it up to 4000 mg. I guess when I get back home I can experiment with sodium.

I would not be increasing sodium unless you have sodium deficiency syndromes (which are usually not consistent with high blood pressure)

Update: 2-20-20

Still strickly Keto!

I have been taking Amlodipine 5 mg for BP. This morning I took my BP, and while I felt like nervous (like I usually do before a BP check), the reading was 132/71.

The odd thing is that even with the medicine, this is the first day since beginning the med that it has been this low. Usually it has been about the same as before the medicine.

I don’t know if it was lower today because the medicine has finally kicked in, or if it is something else I’m doing, eating, etc.

I have been exercising ever day now. Walking on the tread mill and using weights (my muscles ache!), has become a new routine.

I think the top number could be lower, but think it is because I so strongly dislike/fear taking my BP. Not sure. Hopefully, if I keep checking it my mind will eventually not stress about it and that won’t come into play when checking it. Crazy!

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #49

Amlodipine half life is between 30 and 50 hours. So steady state plasma concentrations take 8 days to level off. I don’t know how long it has been for you.

(Gregory - You can teach an old dog new tricks.) #50

I don’t think sleeping on the tread mill is going to help that much

( Just joking … )

#51

 Fixed it!

Eric, thanks! That makes sense and is about right.

(GINA ) #52

A little daily exercise keeps my BP down, so your time on the treadmill could be making a difference.

Thank you for the encouragement! I sure hope so. In any case, I’m enjoying the exercise.

Thank you for this info!
