@Paulene
OH PAULENE!!! I just looked at the angry bright red spot I had on my stomach the size of a quarter and it is now pale pink!!! Wowzers!
I really do think the itch is going away too. I get a few needle pricks here and there, but nothing like it was. I feel much much better already. I was a wreck!
Back to the topic of the keto rash- answers!
@Paulene
Thank you and same to you! I will see how it looks tomorrow and more importantly in the aftermath- is it gone for good?
SO sad, because I am itching again today. I will keep on with the doxycycline - but I really do not understand this come and go, and I fear the dermatologist I see on Friday wont have an answer either.
I had a test a few days ago for a very itchy rash.
Apparently I may have Shingles or a staph skin infection.
Will know when the results come in.
@KetoRocks
Have you checked out the heat rash? Also called pruritus pigmentosa. Does it itch like crazy? Are you new to keto?
No I am some years into keto and I have a very good doctor who did swab tests a few days ago. Should get the results tomorrow.
I don’t have a heat rash, it is autumn here.
Thanks @Chantarella.
No I am some years into keto and I have a very good physician who called in her colleague and did swab tests a few days ago. Should get the results tomorrow.
I definitely don’t have a heat rash. Its Shingles they are worried about and yes it does itch like crazy. iIt is autumn here and very comfortable weather, not hot…
I’m sorry to hear how bad your keto rash is. That’s rough. I have one going along around my neck as if I were wearing a travel pillow. Before I knew what it was, I used cortisone and it disappeared after a week of twice daily applications. Unfortunately it came back a couple of weeks later.
I guess there’s a chance it’s not keto rash but something else, but I don’t know what else it would be.
@KetoRocks
Sorry that should say KETO rash and not heat rash. Spellcheck sometimes really mangles my words. Keto rash is called pruritus pigmentosa
@Mavro
Seems Keto rash doesn’t heal with cortisone. So it must be something else if cortisone made it go away. I have no idea what it could be.
My rash is gone now, except for the dispigmentations, which are much more pale now. For me, the main thing is that the itching is gone. Tried everything. ACV and olive oil helped topically. Mainiy for the itching. I finally took glutathione orally plus chlorella - and I don’t know if that helped or the rash had just run its course anyway. But after that, it subsided.
I eat half a punnet of raspberries when I have keto rash and it goes away.
What I have now is different…I think it is important to check and ensure you don’t have shingles…
@KetoRocks
If it went away with raspberries then that was the keto rash. upped the carbs with raspberries.
I think I just had a extreme reaction to keto. No- it was not shingles. That presents very differently.
Indeed it was.
Shingles is what I have now.
Had keto rash briefly many times, mine wasn’t particularly itchy, just slightly… and the half punnet of raspberries always cleared the keto rash for me. My shingles is far itchier than the keto rash ever was for me and it is sending me nuts.
Shingles can be mild or hefty. I had a kid come in with chicken pox and about 10 days later I had a few bumps along my rib. It always follows the nerves. I had it very mild. But i felt exrtremly tired. I also infected the whole paediatric clinic during my night duty. The cancer kids all needed vaccinations due to me. Then I was out sick for a while only so as not to infect any of the kids.
Well, test came back and doctor couldnt figure it out so suggested allergy.
Not staph, not shingles not herpes. Looked like shingles,blistered and itched like like shingles but rash didnt spread, was just in one small area of my neck.
I think I had shingles but the ketones protected me from it being a bad case.

What do we really know about ketone protecting us? When I had it I ate a normal diet, no ketones, and weighed about 120 lbs eating OMAD. I was young and strong I guess and so I didn’t have a bad case at all. But the MAJOR symptom was about a week before it broke out I felt extremely weakened. Totally tired. Did you? That is a important symptom of the illness.
3 weeks in bed exhausted prior to rash.
As for what do we know about ketones protecting us?
There are quite a few references in here re immunity, it is not only referencing Covid19.
Oh most definitely obesity, diabetes, preisbestes and high blood pressure puts a person at risk of dying with covid19! Even obesity alone! I was talking of “ketones” per say. Like you can’t drink ketones and expect that to work. I was also talking about the antiinflammatory effects. Less insulin, less infammation. For sure. But exactly how “Ketones” themselves protect us? Not sure. I have even heard that obesity makes people prone to cancer. Could be but again there is no proof of that because of all the variables not included in the study or not even measurable. But most importantly is the part about how this all affects our immune system. And this is simply not proven - not yet. Even the doctor says “we think…” and “could”. I was also focussing on the “cytokine storm” aspect. No proof that this changes in people who eat keto. Strangely there are cytokine storms in both healthy and metabolic syndrome people- as this doctor also notes. We dont want a cytokine storm when we have corona- that over reaction to the infection which can prove deadly. Its all pretty complicated. But no doubt that a keto diet to heal metabolic syndrome could be our life saver in corona times.
