Thank you…misery does love company!!! I will enjoy watching this clip.
Anyone with severe calf/foot cramps?
Thank you Jay for your input. I am getting so much good and needed advice. I will again begin exercising my arms like I had done in the past. Been busy with life and put exercise on the back burner but
have steadily been losing the weight without exercise. I will incorporate that soon to build muscle as I do enjoy exercise really. I thank you all, if you’re still reading this posts comments, for all the advice you’ve given me. I am very grateful to this
forum!!
I had those same toe curling cramps as well. It was taken care of with a tsp of salt in a couple of oz of water at bedtime.
I experimented with that many times. Without the night cap, cramps from hell. With the nightcap, blissful sleep. Unless i did that morning stretch, then instant cramp onset .
So over the past year or so I’ve been looking into electrolytes just a little more. Sodium, it seems, is the Kingpin. I’ve read in several locations that it also helps to regulate the other electrolytes. So if sodium is ‘off’ then so will the others be so.
This wasnt a scientific search whatsoever. I just compared what info I found with medical websites, and any research papers I could find, few that they were, to try to get a consensus on it (consensus is not science!). Although I couldnt find evidence to support this, pretty much every source I found agreed that all of the electrolytes work in unison, and best perform at the correct ratios.)
So I switched things up a bit. I used potassium instead of salt for a night cap. But potassium can be easily overdosed, and that can be deadly. Iirc excesses potassium can stop your heart. I was never able to confirm an amount that counted as an overdose, so I made sure to use only a single servings worth of it as a night cap, as opposed to going overboard like I did with salt.
I rarely supplement potassium anymore, as I have learned an avocado day keeps the cramps away. Compare a banana to an avocado. You may never think of a banana again.
Just an aside, after those horrible cramps I began to realize how tetanus can be so horrid. I’ve read in some historical medical documents (hundreds of years old) of people with tetanus having muscle cramps so severe it would break bones. Now thats a serious cramp.
Yes I heard of those potassium overdosing scares and I really don’t know either how much to take. I am weary of taking too much. I did start my day off today with a potassium and a magnesium supplement.
I may take another magnesium before bed, but not a potassium one again. I will also try the tsp of salt in a bit of water too before bed. What I did last night did prevent the cramps and I didn’t dare stretch this morning
Oh my goodness, I am not that bad yet. I hope it never goes to that extreme, but when it’s bad for me, it’s bad.
I was thinking about bringing back snuff boxes, but for salt. You know, like they used to use for sniffing tobacco etc. back in the 1800’s but put salt in them instead…snuff boxes
I have a cleaned out soy sauce bottle that I keep powdered salt in. I took half a cup of kosher salt flakes and put them in the blender. Made a fine powder. Haven’t tried snorting it like snuff though. Dont think I’ll be trying it either.
Bob at work accused of doing coke in the bathroom … “no, really, its kosher. Kosher salt.”
Ohh the police are going to think they got someone big here. “So whats THIS” Oh thats my salt that I just randomly pop in my mouth every so often. “Sure it is” After they bring the drug dogs in and a lab kit only to determine its salt.
