Anyone near or at goal and thinking about slowly adding carbs while monitoring your Keto status?

I came here searching for info after being recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I stayed for learning. What a font of knowledge this place is.

A word of advice. Go get your HBa1c checked ASAP. Diabetes is a sneaky bastard that wont let you know its there until its too late. I was lucky. Mine was caught simply by accident while having lab work done for an unrelated illness. If your HBa1c happens to be low like it should be great. If its in the “normal range” but still at 5.7% or higher (but still considered healthy, get it checked again in 3 months. Had I known what I do now, I would have been having it checked every 3 months like clockwork. I have a feeling though since you’ve been in keto for some time, you might be just fine.

To answer your question about reaching goals… My goal is to kick Diabetes ass. I dont think the goal will be a one time event. I’m sure I’ll just have to pound it into the ground everyday for the rest of my life. But Keto makes that easy to do.

Yah that is so wonderful to hear you and many others saying just this thing. You can do it and yes it’s gonna be a lifelong effort. And same for the rest of us who love what keto’s done for us or is doing now when we are on it. Not a purchase, not a possession, no owner ship just an every day choice and lifestyle.
Congrats to you !

I am within two pounds of my goal weight and wondering the same thing. I am also actually getting hungry again, which feels odd since I haven’t been for the last two months. I am assuming I am in ketosis since I have eaten very few carbs and have dropped the weight I needed to lose easily. I feel good, my BP is back down to where it should be and I will be getting blood tests soon to check on my cholesterol (which is familially high) and A1c.

My personal belief is that the high cholesterol is not the problem but rather the inflammation and if I’m not eating sugar and starches I will have less inflammation.

Hi Jane - Yes this sounds great to me as well. I’m still 9# to goal but it’s going great. I started w BMI 22 and wanting BMI 20 (120lbs for ) me just because it feels so good that way. Hey ha ha I’m 64 and you’ll see (if your’e not already ) it get’s that way - do it now or never ha ha.

Anyway, I have also found, even at this stage (still 9# out) that I can go right back into pure ketogenic or something like an egg diet or a 500 cal/day fast for a few days and see my ketones go right back up.

Lots of wonderful social eating these past few holiday months. I gained back 2 1/2 (to 132) and stopped logging anything. We traveled for most of both holidays and I brought my gluco keto meter. Glu was fine but keto low as expected.

When we got back, I went to egg diet and now I’m just finishing up a few days 500-600 cal quasi-fast. Scale this morning back to 129.4. Yay ! That’s like right before the holidays so now I can Keto on for the rest of it.

I like what 240lbfatloss said in November (below). I think we all can set up our own programs like this that work for our metabolisms and lifestyle.

I also find that whenever I want to go into a strict period like this, it is best to log in all the expected macros in the morning then eat according to plan. If I want to change something, I just recalculate to confirm. But no decisions necessary otherwise. That helps me a lot : )

So, my little rule is that if I eat carbs, such as starches and simple sugars, for whatever duration I ate them, I don’t eat them for double that amount of time. The longest I ever go, on a regular basis, is a two day recompensation period. However, a longer period, such as a two week vacation, wouldn’t phase me at all, I’d just eat carbs, but try not to grossly overeat.

I got an intestinal flu this last week. I am having trouble eating enough to recover and stay keto. I haven’t been eating carbs but can’t seem to get back into the groove of cooking a proper meal.
