2 Months on Keto and gaining weight

Early on in Keto I believe the most important thing you can do is to not limit your fat intake. Next some mild limits on protein, but control the carbs. During this period I believe I lost close to 35 pounds of water.

It can be really hard to transition you body from a glucose based engine to a fat based engine.

For me, I went a month with no limits on fat and protein then I went 8 weeks limiting protein and some limits on fat. It was brutal. After this the weight has run off consistently at 3 pounds per week.

I believe that 8 week period represented my body burning thru the glucose stores and then being in withdrawal.

I have taken up my watch 1/2 inch since this started and it is still loose.

See, but I thought the whole point of keto was that it was not supposed to be brutal. I can do brutal - I’ve been able to stave myself thin but I don’t want to do that any more! I want to eat and then I want my body to stop telling me to eat because it’s full and healthy and happy.

I’ve been keto for 3 months with some weight gain. I do think I’m overeating on protein a bit, but I do not want to be hungry. I can’t fast yet either. I can get from meal to meal and don’t snack any more so that is total progress but I still need 3 meals a day or I get really really hungry. Keep waiting for the ā€œmagicā€ myself!

If you lower your protein intake and increase your fat intake

this will fall into place. Fat is more satiating than protein.

It was brutal because of the flu/withdrawals from being glucose based for 59 years not because of the eating choices I made.

I did have to teach myself that I didn’t have to eat 24/7.

Ah, ok! Keto flu was rough on me too, tho luckily the really bad part was only a couple of weeks.
