Which app do you use?

(Jessica K) #1

There are 5 gazillion different recommendations in all of the groups. Which one is your favorite?

Personally, I’m starting out the new year with My Fitness Pal. Annoyed it can’t track net carbs, though.

Non MyFitnessPal app/tracker that can import recipes

When I track, I use Cronometer. Because it tracks micronutrients, electrolytes, glucose, ketones, etc. And yes net carbs. It also breaks down fats and proteins into specific types, if you’re into that.

I started building my own tracker recently. It allows you to add recipes / food and then complete a daily food diary, no where near complete but it’s helped my wife and I really understand what we are eating.

Before that we were just using Excel to track daily.

I’ve used MFP and Bant.
I find MFP is way too over engineered for what I want, so I like the simplicity of Bant.
I only used it for a couple of weeks and I don’t bother tracking now.

I use MFP also and I’m wondering if sending emails for requests to add that ability might work. Would appear to be an easy addition for them.

I use MFP now but am thinking about trying Cronometer. I’ve also dabbled with Stupid Simple Keto. That one is ok but I forget to log food there on most days.

I have tried most apps, I settled on life sum. It has a keto diet mode that focuses on the macros. It does not track net carbs. I hound the developers a few times a month about this. Mostly, it’s well designed, easy to use and isn’t loaded with adds and premium features. The caveat is it’s a paid app, free to download but 30 a year to fully use.

the health tracking apps seem like more trouble than they are worth…portion size, brand names, certain types of food all seem like they could be “off” or not included in the app… and don’t we honestly know if we’ve eaten too many carbs (or food in general) that day…I guess if you have the free time to track such things it might be interesting…but i can’t be bothered. maybe if someone invents an app specific to KETO and lists the top 100 things a keto oriented person might be eating i might try that…anyone know if there is such a thing?..also with many people “fasting” it starts to look less and less important to track such things… just my 2 cents.

MFP and Carb Manager

I use MyFitnessPal, RecipeBook for all my recipes and DiaConnect to track my blood glucose readings, medication and ketones though it’s not really set up for ketones. Plus Fitbit app for steps, stairs, heart rate and sleep and integrates with MyFitnessPal.

After a while it can feel like that but when you are starting out it is important to record what you are eating as it not just for counting its for helping to understand what is in the food you are eating.

After a while tho you kinda know what is in things and its not so important.

Re: maybe if someone invents an app specific to KETO  thats what I’m working on.

I use paleotrack which I like a lot. Unfortunately the premium site has more functionality than the free version and I’m not going to pony up when there are so many free sites. I’ve entered a lot of personalized foods and really like the way it records intake.

Keep doing this!! Make a great app and release it… I’d pay good money for a decent Keto tracking app

I use Carb Manager - I don’t really know if there are better, though. It gives me a nice little pie chart to look at and that’s all I need. I’m far enough in that I don’t 100% track every single day ( i’m not cheating I just better know what I’m doing .)

(Tom) #15

I use mfp, but mostly just to track my weight.

(John) #16

I’m new, 4 days in and using MFP which I’ve configured (through the web version) the Keto macros (5%carbs75%fat20%protein). I’ve found today, I actually wasn’t hungry enough to finish all my planned dinner. As a newby to this WOE I like the ability to plan my meals and get the pie chart showing the percentages of C/F/P. MFP is linked to my Apple Watch so that I can track my nutrient levels in the Health App on my iPhone too. I also log my exercise in MFP.

(Jessica K) #17

Yeah, I’m still using MFP in that same way and I like it… I just wish it would calculate net carbs instead of total carbs.

#18

I’ve been using MyPlate. It doesn’t track net carbs or allow custom goals on the free version, but it’s good enough for my needs.

(Jessica K) #19

For anyone interested, my husband found a script for MFP (on PC) that adds a net carb option, and gives you a pie chart with your macros including net carbs
