(Subba Rao) #4

Yeah just read this, sad.

(KB Keto) #5

to be fair to the BBC - they are just reporting “the update from the American Heart Association’s updated advice.”

in the same article they link to:

Just thought I’d post this latest article from the good old BBC.

No wonder people are confused :frowning:

Nice find, but someone else beat you to it. NEWS! (Not Really) - AHA hates coconut oil

(Ari the Wolf) #8

Wow… If it’s just as ‘unhealthy’, well, I’m glad we by it in bulk around my house!

(Gary Eckman) #9

Maybe I need some more Coconut Oil Carol, I’m obviously not quick enough

#10

Lol.
No worries, I merged you.

Once we figure out how to make all foods as unhealthy as beef fat, butter, & coconut oil, chronic disease will end.

(Ari the Wolf) #12

This. Completely, totally THIS. My great-grandma lived into her 70s. (That may be short to some, but the rest of my family seem to be dying in their 40s and 50s!) She fried practically everything in butter and real lard, unbreaded… they made the switch to ‘vegetable’ oils. I’m the first in the family to become prediabetic… and then become not prediabetic.

May we all be as ‘unhealthy’ as our ancestors, right?

(Carpe salata!) #13

Was it grass fed coconut oil?

Srsly … does anyone use flaxseed oil for the omega3? I know it tastes like wet paint, but if it’s healthy … ?

#14

Flaxseed and other pant based omega oils depend on your body to convert ALA to the EPA and DHA that’s found in fish oils etc. I do enjoy some chia seeds from time to time, but I go for the fish or krill oil for the most bioavailability. I would eat more fish, but then the best way would be raw… and just not that into it.

(Gary Eckman) #15

I think the problem lies with people are scared to cook with lard, butter and use all the parts of the animal due to mis-informed articles about fat.

(Carpe salata!) #16

OK. Maybe I’ll try fish oil for a month or so. Any benefits I should notice?

(ianrobo) #17

Damn I must be in very ill health then considering I eat 180g of Sat fat a day !!

That riding last weekend and 13k weight loss is a mirage I tell thee

#18

Some people use it for the DHA to repair brain function. EPA’s working at the mitochondrial membrane level in pretty much every cell in the body. So there’s really no predicting what, if any, differences you’ll notice or when.

(Michelle) #19

this is from Dr. Berger, and I frankly don’t know what to make of it. He is the lipid doc though, heard him on several podcasts.

I’m going to say this information from the article is outdated due to the lack of association between cholesterol and heart disease.

“…relative to unsaturated fats, coconut oil raises total and LDL (bad) cholesterol (but less than butter, which contains saturated fats and cholesterol). Consumption of coconut flesh or squeezed coconut in the context of traditional dietary patterns does not lead to these adverse cardiovascular outcomes.”

Also, if you are looking for a ketone boost (for whatever reason) then yes, refined MCT oil will give you more ketogenic response per ml of oil.
