Bruce had been told repeatedly not too ride the exercise bicycle so fast…

Or did Keto forces burn the bakery down?

(Jane) #552

What was on fire?

(Laurie) #553

Apparently arson at 3 different Masonic Halls in metro Vancouver.

(Michael - When reality fails to meet expectations, the problem is not reality.) #554

Yep, Masonic Hall. A heritage building no less, dated 1911. Two stores on the ground floor also destroyed. Fortunately, the adjacent buildings on either side don’t appear to have been damaged other than by smoke.

There’s a video here of the fire near my apartment:

Physics is like sex: sure, it may give some practical results, but that’s not why we do it.

Deep Thoughts™

This is the big problem in science that no one is talking about: even an honest person is a master of self-deception. In today’s environment, our talent for jumping to conclusions makes it all too easy to find false patterns in randomness, to ignore alternative explanations for a result or to accept ‘reasonable’ outcomes without question — that is, to ceaselessly lead ourselves astray without realizing it.

You could add Covid19 up there next to bird flu. Fauci is advocating that vaccinated folks continue to mask and social distance. To which I ask, then what purpose does vaccination serve?

We have a panoramic north-facing window in our apartment. When we moved into this apt in 2003, the panoramic view was the full monte North Shore mountains: Seymour to the east, Grouse/Fromm to the north, both Lions and Hollyburn to the west. Over the years high rise developments have gradually intruded until now we can only see Grouse and part of Fromm. However, we now get another effect. This is our east wall with reflections of the sunset from a couple of high rises several blocks north. I’d still prefer to see the mountains, but I’ll take what I can.

PS: The red overtone is from grow lights we have in the room for the benefit of the plants.
